The transfer portal is hurting my son's chances of playing on the college level.

I'm at that point too. I'll be excited when the first game rolls around the day-of, but anything leading up to it, I couldn't care less. I think it's more that my family is the priority (I have 2 littles) than the NIL-related stuff. I don't even care about the other teams Alabama faces, or the rivals. I only have enough bandwidth for the sports teams I support, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Littles always were more important than college football. Congratulations for being able to feel the truth, now.

Even though it's just weeks away, I just can't get excited about college football. :(
Yep, I used to rush out to buy Phil Steele's magazine for the upcoming season, new the release date, would find it the first day available.

This year, forgot all about it. I'll probably order one online at some point just because I've gotten that magazine every year for close to 20 years now. Feels like more of a "this is what I'm supposed to do" rather than "I can't wait for the first game"

I probably haven't bought a college football preview magazine since I was in my early 30s.

I tell you, it's been insanely difficult to keep up with our own players, let alone anybody else's but I'm juiced for this season! I know it's pro ball now but it always has been, at least partially.

Lots of drama and storylines. I want to watch Ty succeed and destroy all our opponents and, barring that, a backup replace him and do well. I want to see Arch and the other QBs and teams around the league. I want to utterly annihilate FSU!

I want us to make the playoff and win it or at least know we got beaten by a better team and it just wasn't to be this year. I want to see Grubb call 15 or 16 great games. I want to see Deonte win the Butkus. I want to watch The 18 Year Old win the Heisman. I want to see some blocking from the O line. I want to see something resembling a run game. I want to break Pavia's big heart.

I want everybody to fear us again.

Yeah, this is what's being told to my son as well. If it weren't for the portal, he would have long had a scholarship offer. But, with baseball, there are so few scholarships and now with the portal, they're being eaten up by the transfers. Vert frustrating.
My son played baseball about 15-16 years ago at a small 3A private school. He was a late bloomer, not on many college radars. Plus he had a different head coach each year from a sophomore to graduation, so he certainly didn’t have an advocate as coach reaching out on his behalf. He went virtually unnoticed until he threw a complete game three hitter in the second round of the state playoffs (and was hitting upper 80’s with his fastball) that someone actually took notice. An assistant coach from Division II school was in attendance scouting a couple of players from the opposing team. We took a visit, attended several showcases, and he played summer American Legion ball. When all was said and done, he got two JC offers (hardly enough financially to even cover gas money) and a walk on opportunity at two division II schools.

No portal to deal with but by the time people recognized his ability most scholarships (even partial) were gone. And so was his dream of playing college baseball.

The Diego Pavia Ruling. It basically allows student college playing time at the JUCO level not to count. Students time at JUCO did not count against the six years to play four years for normal student athletes. It has basically become a training league for division 1 sports.
I hope that guy breaks a leg. I’m tired of these wannabes destroying athletics.
