The whole "bammer" thing

Living over here with these idiots is quite interesting to say the least. Most of the seem to refer to themselves as the "uptown" or "sophisticated" fans. They actually make redneck jokes about Alabama fans all the time. I always ask how a supporter of the Cow *****e College could come to the conclusion that they are the "class" of the state. They are fighting over the closing of the campus trailer park, oh wait, I'm sorry, it's the Trailer COURT!! They even have a website for it http://www.campustrailercourt.net It seems the new owners are wanting to boot out current students, and the students are fighting it. Below is the actual letter written to the tenants. Very "uptown" and "sophisticated" huh?? Its turned into quite a bugaboo over in Cow Land.

Just.... wow.

I've been doing a little lurking on some Auburn boards this week and I've noticed that they love to refer to Bama fans as "bammers". Is this supposed to be some kind of slanderous title? Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance here but I just don't feel a sting from it. Is this really the best they can do?

It's not just on Auburn's boards, but on Vols and Gators as well.
I'm sure it's across the SEC as far as that goes. I can see where
it can catch on as slang. I agree that I don't feel the sting myself either.
I think it's kind of funny.

How hard is to spell HAMMER.............

It comes from the cow-college teams being HAMMERED so many times by the TIDE!

They were trying to spell HAMMER but couldn't so they figured BAMMER would be easy 'cause they all knew how to spell the first three letters of the word!

They thought the real intelligent ones could show the i'gnant ones how to spell & sound it out the right way, (boy were they suprised when it took 'em FORTY YEARS to be able to get it right!!)

In other words we shouldn't get mad or aggraveted when called a BAMMER, It's actually a compliment, it took them a long time to come up with it! Just look at their mascot names, they really have trouble putting things together and keeping them that way! It's called staying power BAMMER'S have it barner's don't!!

Welcome to my world! From the great pom-pom incident to this latest jewel, it never ends with these people. Living a little over 15 miles away from the campus, I could write a book on the stupidity I've seen over the years. It is ever-entertaining though!!

You should write a book. I know I would read it. Something like that would make it a little easier to make it through these tough times.

Do people even know where Aubie is outside of the Southeast?

"Efreybody knowth that the Univeristy of Auburn ith in Georgia."

And this is different than us calling them Aubies in what way.

I for one think its a great short way to refer to members of the Bama nation. I could never consider it an insult. However, if I was called the greatest of all barn fans it would be time to fight.

Isn't the human in a tiger suit mascot named "Aubie"? Not derogatory. Kind of like a "pet" nickname. Not every school has a nickname that is neither derogatory OR complimentary. The Tide, Tigers, Vols, Gators, Gamecocks, etc. might be considered "complimentary", but I like to try to remember to use proper names and nicknames anyway.

For me at least, it is less about hating the other team, or a color, and more about loving The Tide and Crimson. Except when they are playing Alabama, I don't care if Auburn wins, loses, or is idle.

Derogatory nicknames:

Bammer
Bammar
Barner
UThug
UcheaT
LSWho
Missy St.

and on and on and on...

Whoa there buddy! I believe they are called manufactured homes now. Let's not insult the good rubes, I mean people, of Lee County.

And here all along I thought our mascot's name was "Big Al." Hmm, I learned something new today. That fluffy elephant on the sidelines is named "Bammer."

Somebody better tell the Athetlic Department.
