Things aren't as bad as some are making it. (watch teasers)

Right now we're a top 25 team with top 5 talent. I think that's why so many are upset. We're not as bad as our record...the team just doesn't seem like they want there come gameday. You can tell it in the way they walk up to the LOS and then the way they play. The worse part is that is carried over to Saban. Saban doesn't look fired up and he hasn't gotten ....ed off very much. Compare to last year...remember him throwing his headphones when Julio didn't get off the field? Saban seems different this year. He needs to take control of the team. I'm not saying he's not the best coach in CFB, because he is. But right now, IMO, he's not in control of the team. No one is.

Amen.

And just remember, it is possible that this "down" year is a 10-3 or 11-2 season. This is a FAR cry from where we were not that long ago. Everyone knew we'd struggle some. I said at the beginning of the season we'd have 2-3 losses. We lost WAY too much to really repeat, and especially with a big bulls-eye on our back. I was a Bama fan in 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and the 2007 UL-Monroe game, and you know what, that made 2009 all the more special. That's why I teared up at the end of the BCSNCG, and why I still tear up. We came a LONG way in a short period of time.

I hesitate to say "We'll be back", because we haven't gone anywhere. We're going to be just fine. I actually slept amazing well last night for a loss against a rival. I know this is just one of those things. I'd rather have Coach Saban at the helm than anyone else (alive). It's a great time to be a Bama fan, regardless of the W/L total for this year. Roll Tide.

Hey, Oyster...

Don't let it get to you too badly. It's pretty much par for the course after a loss. Knee-jerk reactions (with emphasis on "jerk") calling for a player's/coach's head, while others run for cover swearing the sky is falling.

I learned to wait until Sunday or Monday before looking at the board.

We played hard, just lost. Yes, some players missed assignments. Yes, if we catch that pass, don't fumble, block better, etc. we would have won.
Our crowd was loud and plenty of us were over there. I am proud of the effort we put in.
Let's go beat miss. State
RTR!

I agree. There were several plays that could have changed the outcome. We just didn't make the play. It was louder to me in the 2nd half than the last trip down there. I hope we can have the ball bounce our way for the next 3 games. We haven't had many breaks and our 2 losses seemed to have had perfect play or close to it for the other team.

OK, my two cents...
I never went to UA, and if USA had had a football team when I was 7, maybe things would be different. But I am a fan of Bama football, as I have been for 50 years.
Having said that, I agree with CNS; this year's team is lacking in leadership. That is something that has proven lethal in road games, and if not corrected, may prove to be a problem in one or two of the last three games.
And it appears to be lacking on both sides of the ball; with the returning offense, that has really surprised me.
Here's to the team returning to the friendly confines of BDS and rippin' off 3 in a row.

Great post, friend...and I'll add one more thing. When you have a chance, get up close to those "big ol' boys" in the Crimson, and look at the faces of those teen-agers who are bustin' their chops to win games for UA.

Cut 'em some slack, Tide Fans.:BigA:

Good post. I agree completely.

At this point, I'm not at all disappointed in our season. And it's just my observation, but I don't really think there's been a problem with effort, intensity, toughness, or "want-to", whatever you want to call it. I think our guys have competed well and fought hard throughout the season. The fact of the matter is that we replaced nine veteran starters on defense with a handful of young, inexperienced players. We lost a couple of key blockers and an excellent tight end on the offensive line. We've got key players on both sides who've been banged up - some who I don't think have been close to 100% all year. We've got six conference opponents who have two weeks to prepare for us. We've played three road games against ranked, talented, well-prepared, highly motivated conference opponents. So for all the talk about playcalling, leadership, effort, intensity, etc., I think if we have a "problem" this season it's simply that we've got a team with an inexperienced defense, injury problems and a murderer's row of a schedule. So the fact that we found ourselves squarely in the national championship conversation in November for the third year in a row is pretty impressive in my estimation. I'm pleased with our season thus far. How many seasons can we claim to have administered embarassing whippings to the likes of Penn State, Florida and Tennessee in the same year, opposing records nonwithstanding? We had an excellent come-from-behind victory on the road against what appears to be one of the best Arkansas squads in recent memory. We're not far enough removed from the Dubose/Shula days to be complaining about a top 25 ranking and a 7-2 record in mid-November.

And I do understand the sentiments about "we're underachieving relative to the talent available", but please bear in mind that young defensive talent has to mature, and all the offensive talent in the world can't overcome a line dealing with injuries, new starters, and some pretty excellent defensive fronts. Relative to the injury problems we've had, the environments we've played in, and the defensive talent we've faced I actually think the offense has played fairly well this season. I can't really say the same for the defense as a whole, but the cards were stacked much higher against them and I think they'll be an excellent unit when they mature.

Anyway, JMO. RTR. Let's finish the year strongly.

No matter how bad things get, it could always be worse...we could be Texas fans, or maybe fans that live in a state that has a team with numerous national championships, but we pull for the other team in the state that wins national championships about as often as Hailey's Comet comes around. :biggrin2:

You know what guys, maybe this gets deleted, and maybe it gets shoved into another thread. I know everyone is dissapointed. Cool. I know everyone wanted us to win. I get it. We have lost 2 games to RANKED opponents ON THE ROAD. At the first of the year, everyone was scared about a young secondary....they gave up 2 blown coverage big plays today. Did we forget this? Did we expect them to be Kareem and Javier on the outside? Did we expect Ro to be calling the plays? No, when the season started, we all expected to have a little let down.

Did the offense underacheive today? Maybe. But then again, everyone talks about AU as an "all world" offense. How many points did they score on LSU AT HOME? Folks, LSU is a good team. Miles' rolled the dice a couple times today, and he came up huge.

You know what, Terrance Cody could have gotten blocked last year and maybe Daniel Lincoln makes that FG. Maybe Julio gets tackled last year against LSU. Maybe AU doesnt relinquish its lead last year in the Iron Bowl. Maybe Colt McCoy doesnt get hurt last year in the BCS Game and Texas wins...(oh my God, I should get shot for even suggesting that.)

You know what, what happens happens. It's ok to be disappointed. It's also ok to admit we got flat out beat today, and against USCe. And you know what else, its ok to admit that AU has a good team. It's ok to admit that if we don't get them they may win the BCS title. And you know what else, its ok if they do. I will still get up every morning and be proud to be a graduate of the University of Alabama. I will still sing the fight song every time we score a TD. I will still yell my butt off every game we ever play. And I will still understand that we will not win every game. We tried, but we didnt.

Let the chips fall where they may. And if you want to jump ship and say "McElwain has lost it"...or "McElroy needs to be benched for McCarron just so we can get ready for 2011"...or my favorite "there is no way this team beats MSU"...think about some things for me. If there is someway at the end of that game we win, how would you feel? Would you expect Dan Mullen to come into BDS and win? Would you still expect AU to come and beat us by "at least 14"? You know what, maybe they do. Maybe they run us off the field. But guess what? Maybe we show up for the next 3 games. Maybe we beat MSU and play a "complete game" against AU, since that is what everybody blames this on. Maybe we win the Iron Bowl. How would that make you feel? If it isn't something that makes you still wanna sing "Yea Alabama" to the top of your lungs, then do me a favor. Go buy a TCU or Boise State shirt and jump on somebody else's bandwagon.

ROLL TIDE til the day I die.
It is like you were reading my mind.Amen and preach on brother.Roll Tide Roll
