Things to do in Starkville on Saturday?

Starkville has one redeeming quality and only one, but it is a good one. Believe me, I spent a lot of time there on business. Don't leave Starkville without eating at Obie's. It is outstanding and I highly reccomend that you try a side of red beans and rice.

Anyone you meet can give you directions. It fairly close to campus and easy to get to. It will be crowded, but they move you through pretty darn fast. Hope you enjoy your visit. I know you'll enjoy Obie's.

After my time at the Capstone me and the Mrs. did 3 yrs. of hardtime in Starkville. If you thing gameday is bad there just try living there for a while!

As already posted, unless things have changed in the past three years they do not sell cold beer in Starkville. I repeat....they do not sell cold beer in Starkville.

There are a lot of good places to eat in StarkVegas. Since kickoff is slated for 2:30 you might want to try breakfast at City Bagel. After that.....start drinking the 40's.

Did I mention that they do not sell cold beer in Starkville.....you just don't know how that has scarred me.
But on the flip side....if you like a pathetic offense, cowbells, and hot beer then you will absolutely love Starkville.

Party or eating?

Don’t let any of these jokesters fool you Stark Vegas is a happening place.
Some of these people are either trying to be funny or have not been to Starkville in quite a long time.
If you are wanting to party

just remember that you will be in enemy territory.
Most of the time I can wear my Collection of crimson tide stuff and no one will bother me but after a loss to Alabama you will be taking a chance.
Now remember that Fraternity row is right behind the football stadium so if you are greek and have a chapter at MSU then pay them a visit.
If you are not Greek then cruse the row but just remember where you are at.
If a club is more to your liking then try “Remington’s hunt club”. .here is their web site
If some one tells you that the hunt club is not happening then check their pocket protector because they must be NERDS!
Ricks café American usually has good bands and is almost as large as Remington’s.
Now if you want to go to a “college” bar type place then walk down Main Street because there are about 7 bars all within a 3 block area.
Most remind me of “copper tops” in Tuscaloosa.
If you are just wanting a place to eat you can try
Harvey’s (Columbus and Starkville) for steak, prime rib and some nice chicken dishes.
Rosey babeys for Cajun food including crawfish and alligator.
Obi’s for hamburgers and such.
Little Dewey’s for BBQ (Columbus and Starkville)
The “GRILL” in Columbus and Starkville has some interesting dishes (Cajun pasta and such).
Peppers deli for sandwiches.
If you want a great steak you need to try “The Golden Horn” steak house. It is located just out side of Columbus on HWY 82 heading toward Starkville.
It will be on your right Just be fore you get to the airport exit.
Oh by the way Starkville now sells “cold” beer.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for the comments, everyone...especially MO.

I am aware that they now sell cold beer, there. That is a very recent change.

I would love a recommendation of a place to hang out after our game and eat, drink, and watch the UM-VT game. I've been to Starkpatch many times and know that getting out from there can take forever. We've decided we want to stay there and watch the night game before attempting to head back to T-town/B'ham. In 2003 we parked a few blocks from campus (Cotton District?) and hung out at this neat place called Roxie's Square Tablespoon before and after the game. They were really great! They even opened early so that we could have a couple of libations before we walked to the stadium that morning. We had a great time, good food, good drinks, plenty of TVs, friendly bartender and waitstaff, etc. However, I have been told that Roxie's is no longer in business.

Any suggestions of a similar place would be appreciated. Would like a place a reasonable walk from campus with decent food, good inexpensive drinks, and several TVs would be perfect. Thanks!

Leaving the game is much better now that the New North Access Road and the 82 bypass have opened.

I live in Tuscaloosa and can leave the stadium walk to my car and drive to Tuscaloosa in 2 hours.

Good luck this weekend Bama.

Thanks for the info. You seem to be familiar with Starkville. Getting out of town could certainly not be any worse. I'm glad to know that there are newly completed roads to assist in that endeavor.

Can you make some suggestions along the lines of my request about a place with food, drinks, and TVs that would be an easy walk from the stadium (a la the former Roxie's Square Tablespoon)? While I certainly appreciate your information about being from stadium to T-town in 2 hours, I would still miss the first half of VT-UM, and unless I stop off at a friend's house in T-town, I'd likely miss the whole game before getting to my place in Homewood. Also, we would certainly want food and drink before getting back and we really wouldn't want to stop at some chain (Applebees, Ruby Tuesday's, etc.) It would just be much less complicated if Roxie's hadn't closed.

haven't been to Starkville in over 5 years, but I lived in Columbus for 24 before moving to Knoxville. Downtown Starkville has a fine restaurant in a hotel, plus one of the finest cajun seafood restaurants you'll ever find...trouble is, I can't remember the name of either...sorry

Mmmm could it be

Mmmmm…. Could it be the state house on the corner of North Jackson and Main Street (one block from The Delta Chi Fraternity house, my fraternity by the way)?
The restaurant at the hotel is called the State Theater I think.
The only other hotel that you might be thinking of could be the “hotel Chester” but I don’t think so.
The Cajun restaurant is Rosey baby’s, also on north Jackson st.
24 years in Columbus, where did you go to High school and what year did you graduate?
