Thinking about going back to college

Anyone know what all documents are needed to re-enroll? Transcripts, etc?
If you are applying to a new school, you will need to pay your old school to have them mail an official copy of your transcript to the new school after you apply for admission. I can't remember for sure, but I think that's about it. If you're reapplying to the same school, they already have the transcripts obviously.

Everything else is just personal information, and some schools make you write a short essay of intent on why you're applying.

Just wanted to give a quick update and ask for some advice:

I went today to talk with an advisor, and I have already taken every class needed to apply for nursing school except one. PSY210 I think it is. I don't really have to take that before hand but it's required eventually so I would go ahead and take that to get it out of the way. Apparently, it doesn't matter when I took those other classes as they don't expire so that's a good thing.

I won't be able to apply until next spring for fall enrollment into the program so I'm still almost a year out from going back to school full time. I'm excited about getting back into school though. I also don't have to retake my ACT, but I have to find a way to get my scores.

I worked the last week or two getting my transcripts sent to me, but since I opened the envelopes they aren't official even though they say official on them  so now I have to go through all that again. High school included. I think that's crazy, but it is what it is.

My only concern and I need some advice is it has been almost 10 years since I took anatomy 1 & 2 in college. Is there a way to study all that again without having to pay for a class or would it better suite me to take the class again even though I don't have to? It's not required since I've already had it.

I work at a local college and they will not ever send an official transcript to a student or former student. They will only send official transcripts to other educational institutions. Maybe that is why your official transcripts say they are unofficial.

That's what I've been told before but I could be completely wrong, I work in the IT department so take it with a grain of salt.

No they all say official on them. They are even printed on some sharp looking cardstock, but they wouldn't take them because I had opened the envelopes. The transcript request I filled out allowed me to send them to myself so maybe they changed the rules. IDK. But anyway at least two of the three are free of charge.

Do it! I did not start working on my Masters degree until I was 50. I actually did much better than during college to obtain my BA. No one to impress, no peer groupings to distract. You may be surprised at how well you will do.

If you are happy with your grades in those classes then do not take them again. You should get an up to date real honest to goodness textbook and spend the money it costs to get one so you can refresh your memory by systematically studying it over the next several months/year. If you retake then your latest score will count, not the best score. Better to study at your own pace and retrain yourself to study with discipline. You can get them from amazon. This is the textbook UA uses. https://www.amazon.com/Physiology-M...TF8&qid=1478228781&sr=1-1&keywords=1323104801

The transcripts should be sent directly from your old school to your new school. You should never see or touch the envelope.

You should be able to get your ACT score sent from the ACT folks. You'll need your school's code so it goes to the right school. There is a phone number to call on this page and they may be able to assist if you have questions. https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/your-scores/send-your-scores.html

It's great that you are very close to getting back in with few hurdles. I am happy for you. You should spend some time and go talk to an academic advisor if you haven't already so that you know what to expect and can be prepared.

It really does help when you go back and have matured. You can often do better than your peers because you are better equipped to deal with the demands of academic discipline. Most people who are smart enough to make it to nursing school don't flunk out because they lack ability - they flunk out because they lack discipline. Getting into nursing school is difficult - most don't realize just how difficult it is. The hard part about staying in is discipline. You can't party all the time, ignore your studies, and coast through. Maturity helps with that.

I 100% agree. I wouldn't worry about retaking the classes you have already passed if you have good enough grades to get in the program. If you have the discipline to to stay on track with your studies you will be fine. Success in education is more about drive than absolute intelligence. It seems like you have the drive and I think you need to follow your dream. Go for it.

In addition to the other things people have mentioned, you might want to check out Khan Academy. It's completely free and you can get a lot of great info throught they're video "classes". Here's their Health and Medicine section:

Here's the Anatomy and Physiology sub-section:

Ya'll are great. Thanks!

Now to my ACT scores, which is a determining factor to getting into the program. Does anyone know if ACT scores are like transcripts where they have to be sent from the ACT office directly to the college or will they accept the scores if I have ACT send them directly to me? Anyone know? I don't want to spend $35 to send them to me if schools won't take them. I'm going to ask when I apply in February or March, but I thought ya'll might know.

As someone twice your age, I say go for your dreams. It may not seem like it, but there will never be a better time to go. Don't look at this as a last chance because tons of people get into a career and find out that they didn't like it. You've got your whole life ahead of you, do something you truly enjoy! Good luck and Roll Tide!
