Well said GulfCoast. It is about his untrustworthiness.
Most of that is Fran's own doing. But some came from Fran's own misplaced trust of Mike McKenzie, Fran's PR man, who had a vendetta against Alabama. SI made the same mistake and had to settle with Mike Price. They all deserve each other.

Karma... I have never gotten so much pleasure out of one's misery as I do Fran's and the rest of the aggies.
During the days leading up to his departure, I just couldn't stand reading this board and the atm boards for not feeling like sick. I just couldn't believe it was happening. We all had this helpless feeling, we felt like losers. And now with the season we are having as opposed to theirs, you just have to smile and feel great in knowing we have the better coach, the better team, the better fans, the better facilities, the better tradition, right now I think we even have wetter water.
All I can say to the aggies lurking is, you wanted him, you bought him, you got him, now you will continue to lose with him. We'll send you a post card this holiday season from our bowl game. We'll know where to find you, home.

I think you hit the nail squarely on the head when you said "We all had this helpless feeling, we felt like losers.". Those words sum up my feelings at the time. As a Bama fan I had never felt like that, even during the debacle that was dubose's last (coaching) year.

I don't like feeling like an aubbie. :biggrin2:

fRan left TCU almost as badly as he left Bama, notice I said "almost". We simply shrugged it off as "We are Alabama". TAMU is no Alabama and they are seeing the accumulations of all his skills or lack of.

fRan is a very organized person. I thought his style of micro management would thrive in a military setting like TAMU. For a complete coaching staff to do so well at Alabama under less than favorable circumstances then do so poorly under very favorable circumstances speaks more against the institution and players than the staff, but I highly suspect fRan is the major problem for all the shortcomings at TAMU. That same staff would likely do better at another institution under a different HC.

What the man failed to realize was that it wasn't all about him. It was all about Alabama, and he was just a part of it. No man is bigger than Alabama. Leaving the program was a disastrous mistake, but how he did it was even worse. He knows it wasn't all about him now, and his team can't trust him for how he treated his last team.

It's like watching a Greek Tragedy unfold on the stage...
Very well said and oh so true.

I wonder how much influence Kim had with his defection to aTm. From what I've pieced together from posters and in the media, I believe Fran probably would have stayed if his spouse had liked Tuscaloosa better. Both of them were under the illusion that Fran was some sort of Super Coach, under estimating the influence of Bama's tradition on the players will to succeed wearing the Crimson and White.

The picture of them leaving the field, alone and far apart from the players in the background last week on Kyle Field had a profound effect on me. It captured everthing perfectly.

You are correct about our attitude after his leaving. It hurt, but it also angered us to a point that we all thought, "how dare him, who does he think he is?" TCU is proving to be worthy without him as well. Amazing how it's working out.

Wonder how the old "Friday With Fran" thing is working out these days? He'd probably sooner have a root canal without anesthesia than try to spin what's happening to his football team.

Last I heard he was mumbling something about being in the forrest and he knew what he was doing.
