I am sure that there were some players under Coach Shula who were motivated and even excelled: i.e. Demeco, Harper, etc. Just looking at some of the pics of the players this spring, I see leaner, meaner, and more pride in their appearance already.

Some might think it will take a while to get where we want to be, but I am not so sure. I think that we will see dramatic improvement at the A-Day game and more in the fall. Will it spell more victories on the field? I think we will be greatly improved. Will we win the West? I think so. The SEC? Quite possibly.

Look at our schedule: UT, LSU, Ga. at home. Some challenging but very winnable games at Ole Miss, Miss State, and Ky. Tough one at AU, but it is always a tough one. The schedule certainly breaks in our favor. I think we will have the best players on the field in order to have the best chance of winning. I think that ths could be a surprise year.

id much rather play vandy this year than play kentucky but it seems that now in the sec there is no "off" week, well besides a bye, which i believe we actually get this year, but i may be wrong.

good. We're going to need some rest for LSU and AU. That schedule is brutal next year.

Yeah, I think the off week comes at a good time. It is between the eighth and ninth games. Typically I would prefer to have an off week a week or two earlier, but considering it comes after UcheaT and before LSU, I think it comes at the best time that it possibly can. Both games are going to be tough, physical, wars.

I'll have what he's having. Anything over seven wins in 2007 is absolute gravy. Roll Tide.

Based on this & what other little information is coming out of camp right now I FULLY expect a better prepared, more fit & more focused team than we have seen in at least 4 years. Probably since Fraud. The W's will come in time and hopefully sooner than later, but I really & truly believe that CNS's work ethic, attitude, and expectations are going to make this program better from day 1.

In 25 words or less define the difference between having an "off" week and a "bye" week.

an off week as in a gimme game, but its been a long time since we had a week when the second team offense and defense could get in the game witih less than 1o minutes, thats my idea as an off week. maybe i should have made that more clear

better?

I like your optimism and enthusiasm, and I certainly hope you're correct. However, I think we need to temper our expectations for 2007. It's true that we have a competent coaching staff in place, but our overall talent level next season really won't be much better than it was last year. We'll be in the transition phase as far as schemes go, especially on defense. That side of the ball could be rough next year. And our competition isn't getting any worse; in fact it will probably be better next season. I agree with the poster who said anything over 7 wins is gravy. We could be a drastically improved team next season, and still lose 4 or 5 games. But I would love to eat crow on this. RTR.

I agree. I can only see a precious few "sure thing" wins this year (about 5) on the schedule. The talent level will be the same, but I honestly don't think any of us have seen what that talent can do when it is brought to its fullest potential. Our schedule is good with the home games, but those games will still be extremely difficult (Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas). I think that the number to reach for in 2007 should be 7 or 8 games at the Minimum, but of course, I hope that we perform far better than this.

Agreed. I think expecting 9+ wins is too much. We will look better, but you can't undue years of poor S&C in a few months. There will also be a new playbook and a lot of new, untested players on D. I think we can win 8 or 9, and expect 7 wins. But Rome was not built in a day and we are very thin at DL and LB. I just hope external expectations don't put too much pressure on the AD if we don't go undefeated this year.

By all accounts of what I've read here and in other places, and in conversations I've had with other fans, I don't think the expectations are unrealistically high this year. I think we can expect to at least be better this year than last, and a gradual improvement over the coming years.
One thing I do expect, however - BDS is going to be PACKED on A-Day!!
Roll Tide

We'll be an improved football team, no doubt. However, I'm not so sure that it will result in many more wins this upcoming season. I'd say 7 or 8 wins is pretty realistic. I won't be complaining if we win more than that. :biggrin2:
