On Talking Sports last night they had Bama finishing in last place in the West. Danny S. said we would be lucky to win five games. I was shocked to hear that! It still blows my mind!

that scares me

Danny Sheirdan knows his sh*t.He's the expert of experts. The best at what he does.Of course the CIA is to and they were wrong in Iraq.Lets hope DS is to.

Here's the rub.

There isn't a soul out there that knows what to expect. Here you have DS and DD saying we will end up last in the West. YET, you see other writers (CNNSI) saying we'll end up 7-0 going into UT.

Personally, it's one game at a time for me. I don't have great expectations this season...and find myself happy we open with USU instead of a team like...say Memphis.

Face it. We are thin. In fact, the "Thin Red Line" has been redefined.

If there is one thing I hold onto, it's this. Out of the 9 losses last season, 5 of them were single digit losses. Easily, it could have been a 9-4 campaign. It's wait and see.

Sheridan's...

opinions are deeply contaminated by a very bitter grudge he holds against Bama, a grudge which is totally nonsensical. I don't pay any attention to anything he says about us, TBF...

The fact is, we are not the Alabama we used to be.

Mark my words, that is not a bad thing. You will see winning season after winning season. Bowl win after bowl win, and you will see Alabama rise, and fall.

I could not care less how many games we win, it will not dilute my spirit or pride in the Crimson Tide. I will take one game at a time. Regardless of depth, if played with heart, we will be "in" each and every game. "Heart" cannot take the place of talent, except in rare circumstances.

My friends, Alabama is a specialist at those rare and exceptional circumstances.

Roll Tide!

That's funny. I think I remember Danny Sheridan telling finebum that he has spoken to several coaches who think BAMA could be 7-0 going into the UT game. I guess he can change his mind on a whim.

Danny Sheridan has my respect. He's one of the rare college football experts who actually does his homework before posting any crap on the internet. The reason, if I may assume, he picked us to finish the dead last is our lack of depth in key areas. It's a known issue that without a good depth on both O and D Line, you can only do so much.

Also, let's not kid ourselves - this team is young. This team has yet to proven its offensive proficiency against a quality SEC opponent, and the defense lacks the killer instinct. As with every other team that fields a lot of freshmen, we will be inconsistent. Inconsistency means both of above I just mentioned. Watch how our red zone offense works, or keep an eye on our defense in 3rd and short situations. Unless we master those two areas, our team will continue to be inconsistent.

I think Danny Sheridan has all the reason to pick us dead last (even though I truly think that we can at least beat out Arkansas and Miss St). Our fate of the entire season, once again, is depending on injuries. Lack of quality depth is the key here.

On a bright side, our first unit is as good as any in the SEC and can compete with them barring no injuries. But then again, tell me when was the last time that Bama went through a whole season without an injury to any of the first teamers. We can only hope and pray. Another thing to look out for is Brodie Croyle. I really think that the Bama nation will be surprised to see how much he has improved since last year.

One more thing on our defense. Most SEC teams now run pro style of offense - meaning that they will field 3 wide sets giving QB more options to throw to. That means our defense has 2 choices. Play 4-3 with zone, or field nickel set and let Simone Castille do his work. Neither doesn't sound very comforting to me, but if I had my way I would go with the latter. The least you can do is getting Simone some valuble playing time experience.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you look at our team closely, there are areas that hasn't been answered to yet. Now, I'm not saying Simone Castille is going to play horrible when Saturday comes around. We just don't know how good he will be. Until these are addressed, I think it's safe to assume that we have some holes we need to work on on our team that opposing teams will try to take advantage of.

Danny Sheridan comes off to me as the Tom Culpepper of sports analysts. Somehow, some things probably didn't go "his way" and now takes his shot at Bama.

No matter what his thinking was, I am still shocked that any person who is an expert would predict such a thing. Imagine him picking USC, TX, OK, or MICH to finish LAST in their conference! Now we may not win many, but last is a stretch.

My take was that he does not have any confidence in Mr. Shula. I think he is letting personal issues cloud his thinking.

Believe it or not...

it's a Jim Donnan fetish. He pushed and pushed hard to have him hired, the last go-round. In the process, his feelings were hurt, because his ego wasn't massaged enough by the AD. Now, he's turned on us...

Phil Steele

Phil Steele's Magazine, always a comprehensive well studied collection of facts and prognosis and as discussed last week on this board he selected BAMA to break out. It depends on who you read, are any of these "GURU's" any better than the other. Buy any of their magazines and the endorsements all have their sucess tilted in their favor, $$$$. Respect is to strong a word for me to use with any of them and even more so, my money is to precious to place faith in any of them. I do buy several of these "rag mags" every pre-season, every one differs from the other. One will have a higher percentage all will some how clain it in some way or fashion. I take anything they say with a grain of salt, as most you should take what I say with a grain of salt, after all I do with most I read on here. Wait, or is it Tequilla I take salt with, oh and don't forget the lime.
