Hey let's put the whole story out there because I'd like some reaction if there are any high school coaches reading here.
They have a segment called, "Put a Sock in It" and it's for fans to call in and trash sports figures and basically tell them to shut up. They give out prizes to the most entertaining callers and it's done once a week. The hosts go first usually. Wycheck is a Saban-hater and has trashed him on air for his attitude towards fans and reporters.
So today Wycheck stated that he had heard from local high school sources that Coach Saban would only come to schools to visit recruits if he could come in through a back door, that he had to have security there, wouldn't walk across the school campus, wouldn't sign autographs and I forget what else. Basically saying that Coach Saban was a jerk when he went to these high schools recruiting their players. He went on and on about what a jerk Saban is and that he would recommend that top ranked players go somewhere else to play rather than go to the warm and fuzzy coach at Alabama. He said something to the effect of, "Go Tuberville".
The other host Kevin Ingram said something about Saban walking on the field at Vanderbilt in advance of the team, and host Mark Howard said something about Saban being at least a good coach.
So my question to any high school coaches who have had contact with Coach Saban is, "Is this true?" Given the success he's had recruiting, I couldn't envision that this would endear him to high school coaches, but I could be wrong.
If he's had the success he's had, I would imagine that any high-handed attitude would turn both the high school coaches and players off. Wycheck's story sounds like some rumor passed around the internet and now reported as fact.
And before you jump to the conclusion that these guys are Tennessee homers, they're not. The show is more about the Titans and Nashville sports than UT. They do have their share of UT stories and callers, but no one there works for UT or does their games.
