Today’s commentators

I normally ignore the announcers...but these were so bad I had to turn down the volume. Did you know that JM reminds Gilmore of Michael Vick? Did you know that the MSU rb's nickname is "Woody" from Toy Story? Did you know that UA's offensive line is bigger than the NE Patriots? That's all they had...for 3+ hours...No homework, no pre-game day interviews to set themselves up...just a bunch of washed over mess...whatever that means.
I did not realize that Bama's o-line was bigger than the Patriots' o-line.
The first six times they said it. On the seventh mention, however...

I miss Vern. There, I said it! I actually always liked him and Gary together. I understand why others didn't, but I thought they made a really good team.
I just found this thread so please, I apologize for beating a dead horse if that's the case.

I don't know how anyone could like Vern or Gary, much less both of them together. They are/were turrible, just turrible!

However, I will admit that they are probably the best third-rate "team" in broadcasting. Actually, probably a step behind Beth Mowins and whomever she is teamed with so make that the 2nd best third-rate team...

6 one half dozen the other.

I know some didn't like him or Gary. But "some" seem to not like anybody who isn't constantly blowing wind up Bama skirts too (not saying that's you).

Vern is pretty smart. Retired from football as his skills slipped. Golf happened at a slower pace and he was great for CBS and at Augusta. Probably the most iconic golf call ever ("Yes Sirrrrrr!"). But now he's retired and sitting back relaxing counting his Benjamins.

Vern was wonderful @ golf...football not so much. But he did provide comic relief @ times.

Again, it's subjective, but on the "big call" few were better than Vern. He struggled with names and the minutiae at times, but overall I thought he and Gary made a good team. I guess part of what I liked about them is they called a lot of Bama games during a time when we registered a lot of wins!

Have to admit that I don’t pay a lot of attention to the commentary unless there’s an explanation of a penalty or something.

Anyone else remember when there were some games broadcast without commentary for a brief time?

That was weird.

I liked a Saturday night game in prime time with Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried on the call. Unfortunately we will never have another Keith Jackson it makes games tough to watch when the commentators have a bias.
