What happened in Tuscaloosa wipes out the rivalry between us & Auburn..Classy move on their part..
no doubt. Very happy to see members of the auburn Nation doing this.

I'm staying in your neck of the woods this week. Staying at exit 188 and working at the Army Depot. Thought we were gonna get it tonight, but it passed by through Ohatchee. Took a video of the lightning and thought how cool it would be to be shooting video from atop Cheaha.

Yeah my sister lives in Ohatchee..She said a Alabama Power worker came by checking on folks..He said folks were thrown into the Coosa River..They're having water rescue or recovery ongoing..That's unfreaking real..

I've been coming down here once a week for the past couple of months to check on the job site. A couple of times, I went the back way through Ohatchee, Southside, etc. and of course, I went over the causeway across the backwaters of the Coosa. You talking about right there? On 278?

I visited ITAT a few minutes ago and the one thread that I perused has nothing but sympathetic comments for the folks in Tuscaloosa. There are a couple of jackasses but the rest are in complete sympathy and prayer mode for T-Town.
There comes a time when the rivalry must take a back seat. I've seen negative rebuttals on some sites from Bama fans telling the Auburn fans to get off the site. I think we need to allow others to be gracious and consider the tragic situation that is before us. Everyone standing should try to pitch in and also honor others who extend their hands to help.

Glad to see this.

Anyone who doesn't have compassion for those in a disaster due to something as inconsequential as a football rivalry is completely lost...

Exactly, some people need to get a grip. Football is a game, times like these show us what really matters. The AU/UA rivalry is intense, but its still a game folks, a game. People died, lost loved ones and their homes, think about that for a second. Just saying.
I think most people get it, but there will always be those who insist on sounding like morons when they open their mouths. We just have to ignore them.

Just as Alabama jumped to the aid to preserve their tradition, they're stepping up to the plate to do the show compassion & to help Tuscaloosa. One of them actually said (& I quote) "Today everyone is a Bama Fan" - Very very classy & haven't heard ONE CYNICAL SOUR-GRAPES Auburn fan say he doesn't agree with the move to come to the aid of their state rivals. GOOD FOR AUBURN!!!

This is good to see.

Last night as I was watching the coverage with my wife, I said to her, "I wonder how long it'll take before Auburn fans start saying that this is God's punishment for the trees at Toomer's."

Sure enough, within an hour of being at work, an Auburn fan I work with asked, "Did Toomer's trees ever die?" I answered, "I don't know - I haven't heard anything on it in quite awhile." He said, "I wonder if this Tornado in Tuscaloosa is God punishing Alabama for the poisoning." So I turn to him pretty irate and tell him about the conversation I had with my wife last night and say, "So I guess it took about 10 or 12 hours." And he was dead quiet. Didn't say another word.

He's a nice guy and was probably just trying to be funny. But dang, man - two trees poisoned by a lunatic verses scores dead, hundreds injured and tens of thousands homeless in Tuscaloosa (so far), caused by a natural catastrophe, and you think it's a good time to be cute?

Anyway, good to see there are some compassionate Auburn fans out there. Bravo T for T.

I hope we'd do the same if they faced a disaster like the one yesterday. I'm positive we'd do the same for them. We're all Alabamians - we love this state. We stick together when things are rough, and that's how it should be.

Thank goodness they're not all like that. I applaude T for T. After a bitter rivalry all year and the feelings between these 2 fan bases for the past year, we all have been shown what is really important.

If you were as tacky and silly as your co-worker, you could have responded by reminding him that on the very DAY that the Auburn football team was to be at the White House to celebrate their championship with the President, he's having to fly to none other than Tuscaloosa to survey this tragedy, and if he wants to bring God into it, perhaps God is trying to tell Auburn that they're not supposed to be celebrating ill-gotten gain. :rolleye2: We can turn this "God" stuff back on them just as easily.

Thankfully, they're not all like him.

Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide come together in face of tragedy - ESPN
The devastation throughout Alabama and five other southern states could melt a heart made of dry ice. But then you stumble across Toomer's For Tuscaloosa on Facebook and you discover the goodness of those at Auburn and beyond.

Toomer's Corner is the legendary gathering place for Tigers fans after an Auburn victory. And Toomer's Trees are its signature landmark. No trees have been draped in more celebratory toilet paper than those oaks.

When a Bama nut job recently poisoned the trees, Crimson Tide fans expressed their disgust with the chemical sabotage mission and created a fund to save or replant the oaks. The simple gesture of sympathy didn't go unappreciated by Auburn followers.

Toomer's For Tuscaloosa is a simple idea too: provide a human chain of support and relief for those tornado victims whose stories of loss make you want to sit on a curb and cry.

ESPN visits Tuscaloosa for tornado-recovery story | al.com
ESPN announcer Rece Davis couldn't believe what he saw in Tuscaloosa. He had watched coverage online and on TV about the damage from last Wednesday's tornadoes and was told two-dimensional pictures didn't do it justice.

"Unfortunately, that proved to be true," Davis said. "Whether it was in Alberta City or Rosedale or Forest Lake, it's a miracle that anybody walked away from it."

Davis spent time in Tuscaloosa the past couple days filming an ESPN piece about the tornadoes that will air Sunday on SportsCenter. As the national media has moved on to the next story, ESPN will spotlight the recovery in relation to sports.

Davis said a major part of the piece, which will be about three minutes, will focus on how the "Toomer's for Tuscaloosa" movement on Facebook by Auburn fans has made a difference in the recovery.
