Top 10 in the AP Poll

Gotta say, I don't have much of a problem with the Tide ahead of my perhaps more personal Blue Devils. Not only is it deserved, but it's a nice change of pace. Ronald Steele is the best player in the country, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know if I would consider us as top five material just yet, but we certainly should have a very solid team. I watched the game last Friday night, and we got sloppy from time to time. HOwever, we had a big lead and the young guys played a lot, so it is difficult to really get a reading based on that game. Our talent easily overwhelmed Jackson St. I think we have the best point guard in the nation, a very solid center, a very solid four man, and some explosive young talent. If the young guys can pick up the defensive intensity and we can shoot the ball from the perimeter like we did the other night, we should be tough to beat. I still believe the high post offense we run is easily disrupted by teams with good athletes, but I am hoping we change our half court sets enough to keep the Florida's and LSU's off-balance. This is why the perimeter game is very important. We didn't have a consistent perimeter shooter last year, but we have a couple of good candidates thus far. I also think we can get Ron some rest this year so he isn't worn out down the stretch. I am really looking forward to some good basketball from the guys in crimson this year. Roll Tide!

I hate to bring this up, but how will Davis's car accident affect our immediate future. I know he is fine physically, but I worry about his mental state.

J. Davidson will be back, he loves the game to much. Granted he'll think about her everyday and he'll probably write her name on his shoes or something like that. J's gone through a lot as best I can tell and he loves basketball and it will be the thing that gets him back into a rythm. He'll be fine and this will only make him work that much harder toward Atlanta.

It is funny that this poll looks like a football poll with all of the SEC teams ranked in the top 25. It would be great to see it finish this way at the end.

Alabama has an excellent team, but I am weary of them being a top 5 team at this point.

Everyone knows how good their 1-2 punch of Steele and Super Jemario is. Hendrix is a stud inside. Gee and Hollinger need to develop into consistent scorers.

Also, the tide needs to develop it's bench with some good young players. Depth will be a key this year as Steele can't continue to play 38 minutes or more EVERY game.

I still think they can be undefeated going into SEC play... so who knows?

Mark my words, Alabama will win a national title in basketball before it ever wins another in football.

Gee looked pretty solid last night and has so far this season. I'd still like to see more of a mid-range/outside game from him. He had a hot shooting stroke a couple of games ago, but we need it on a more consistent basis.

Also, we'll need Riley and Torrance to contribute moreso than they did last night if we're going to pull games out against tougher opponents.

rkel you hit the nail on the head. we need to have someone, other than steele, who can make an outside shot. we were 5-16 from 3 pt last night. steele had 4 and davidson had a fluke 3 in the corner late in the game. if we can't hit an outside shot people will pack in a zone and make it tough for our big men. i know its early and maybe we can find out stroke before we get into conference play.

Relax. Riley can shoot from the outside, they just weren't falling for him last night. As for Davidson, it has been well documented that he has the green light to shoot the trey this year.

Yeah, but you have to wonder if he's one of those that can't shoot on the road or neutral sites. Not that I'm suggesting it, but it's something interesting to watch for. A lot of players struggle with their shot on the road or anywhere but their home floor. Either way, outside shooting is key to our success this season to open up the paint for JD and RH.
