Looks like Franchione's scape goat has landed.

Sorry, no link for this. I wrote it.

Torbush comes 'home' to C-N

For Carl Torbush, it was time to come home.

After spending 20-plus years as one of the top defensive minds in NCAA Division I football, the Carson-Newman alum announced Wednesday that he is returning to his alma-mater to join Eagle head coach Ken Sparks’ staff for the 2006 season.

Torbush, a 1974 graduate of Carson-Newman, will hold the title of assistant head football coach and linebackers coach.

“When I left Carson-Newman over thirty years ago, In my heart, I felt like some day this is where I would end up,” Torbush said in a press conference held on Roy Harmon Field at Burke-Tarr Stadium.

Thanks, Frannie

I just wanted to thank you for single-handedly ruining what was otherwise a great career as a defensive guru for 20 years. I couldn't be happier about going from the #1 rated defense in the country, to being your fall-guy for ineptitude at the auburn of Texas. I will be sure and hold the rope tight, as soon as they drop you from the top branch of the tree.

No only that, but I'm sure he said that he would like to thank him for letting him be the bad guy in telling the players his chicken ***** as$ was leaving Bama!

Torbush deserves much better than he's getting! He was a great Defensive mind and will get another shot somewhere in a year or so!

I live 10 minutes from Jeff City. I plan on telling Coach Torbush that I appreciate him staying with our players after that no good $$%%7&*@## left. Carson Newman has a fantastic program and just did a very nice upgrade to their stadium. He will do very well there.

He'll be a good fit there. Maybe he can get C-N back to dominating DII.
I sure respect him for all he did at Bama. I'm sure he still holds Bama in high regard.

Be on the lookout for any aTm polos surfacing at yard sales in Tenn.
Unless he burned them all of course.

I believe Carl Torbush is an outstanding coach and obviously is a man with a great deal of character. It is unfortunate that the situation in Tuscaloosa played out the way it did for him, but he is much better off at Carson Newman than with Franchione at TAMU. Who will be the next sacrifice offered up by Franchione, it may be himself or Kim.

It will be hard for me not to think he will land on his feet and be back coaching somewhere soon.

bayoutider called this on on May 11 in the Texas fans take a "shot" at Torbush: Define the word Torbush thread

Unbelievable scoop!!!!!

Seriously, I'm pretty sure that most everyone assumed that Coach Torbush would be getting another chance somewhere very soon as this is normal for proven coaches who joined bad coaching situations. If coaching careers were ruined with one team, 2/3 of all College and Pro coaches would be out of work right now. I'm actually surprised that he didn't land at a division I school but maybe this was by choice, being it is his Alma Mater.

Being the beat writer for C-N, I had a chance to talk to Torbush on the side after the press conference, you know i had to throw in there that i was a UA season ticket holder, lol.

Anyway i asked him about the Texas AM situation and he kinda side stepped it. His quote was, "lets just say, good players make good coaches, great players make great coaches, and bad players make fired coaches ... and I've tried all three."

I also asked him, looking on down the road, what his plans where for the future and how long he planned to remain at C-N, and he just said, "I take it one day at a time, one year at a time. The good lord wants me at Carson-Newman right now and that's where I am."
