Y'all are scaring me. I land about 8:00 Friday night and will be staying near the stadium in Arlington. DFW to the hotel is about all the driving I plan on doing until some time Sunday. I guess I just need to bring my patience along.
You will be taking the south exit, so you will be fine. All the land mines are to the north. Worst thing you may encounter is some exits on 183 that are not marked. But since you probably don't plan to eat at Abuello's, and will be headed straight to the hotel, you should be taking roads that should be clearly marked.

All kidding aside, you have the easiest drive there is. It's pretty much a straight shot and no major traffic areas.

On Fridays the traffic is bad in places is bad, think GA 400 on a Friday at 5:00, but on Saturday it won't be bad.

OK thank you, I feel a little better. I'm bringing my two boys along with me, so to be honest I think the only fine dining I'll be doing on Friday and/or Saturday is Chick-Fil-A, Arby's, etc... :)

Now I just have to worry about getting out of ATL on the Friday afternoon of Labor Day. Geez, didn't think of that when booking the flight. It's always something.

it there was anyway to use marta to the airport that may help. i imagine parking will be tough on friday afternoon. as long as the weather's not too bad, the airport should be relatively efficient

Maybe from the airport to Arlington via Oak Cliff and Fair Park............?
I got the route!

183 E out of the Southside of DFW.
Loop 12 South
Left on Singleton
Right on Sylvan
Left on Colorado
Right on Jefferson
left on 8th
left on 11th
left on Cedarcrest
left on 3rd Ave
Get on 30 West to Arlington.

You want to do this after 10PM... Too much traffic before...

What? You're gonna send them on a tour of the finer points of our lovely city and not include Harry Hines? I know it's not the bastion of debauchery it once was, but it should still be included if only in remembrance of it's former glory.

Thanks to all for suggestions on how to get to our hotel and avoid the travel abyss. Based on you all's advice, I probably should take over the driving as we get close. My husband is not a very patient driver

Heck, I'm not worried about getting around Dallas. I'm still worried about getting there. Isaac is still moving westward which makes it difficult to know when and where it will move northward. I am trying to decide on taking I20 or going to Memphis and going to Dallas via Little Rock. I am still planning on leaving Thursday.

Thanks! Don't know why I didn't think of Marta, duh. I'm going to check the traffic right before I pull out at 3:00. If all looks good I'll drive to airport. If not I'll hop on Marta. With so many off-site parking I don't think parking is ever an issue. My two boys and I are getting excited! I hope we're not with a bunch of Michigan fans on the flight.

I like Roy's, I used to eat there when I lived in Atlanta. I figured since he's coming to Texas he was looking for some Texas food. Going to Roy's on your one trip to Texas would be like ordering chicken strips at Ruth's Chris.
AAAAAHHHHHH, I get it. You're old school. Places like 3 forks are awesome if you like to spend a lot of money on a piece of meat. It's a good piece of meat, but not a $50 piece of meat. I generally try to avoid the classic steak houses that leave it at that, just meat and potatoes. I'm just not old school like that.
