Trump Attacks Iran, II

There is so much amusing about the tribalists and their binary thinking. You have to be of one tribe or the other. And if you are deemed part of the other tribe, you are a Nazi. To them, one cannot be moderate or libertarian or a non-party conservative/liberal. And then they pivot to claim that they aren't tribal, it's the tribal critics who are the tribalists. That's quite the deflection.

We've had posters here claim that libertarians (and Reason Magazine) are right wing and Trumpers. That's some painfully tortured logic for many reasons. The overarching one is that libertarians are proponents of very small government. That's worlds different from what the two major parties champion. Reason is very critical of Trump ... and the left/Democrats. When you take off your blinders, it's easy to see how much both side suck.

It's also amazing how much of Trump's policies are in line with Democrat thinking. Trump is a big proponent of big government and government intervention. Yet, all of a sudden, the Dems want to dial back the reach of government and oppose Trump's tariffs. Seems they've gotten religion and realize that increasing tariffs increases prices.

Now, if they only extend that thinking from taxes on imports to taxes generally. One day, maybe.

And, as much as I dislike Trump, can we stop with the Nazi talk. That's an insult to the millions of people who were murdered. If you really believe that you need to step away from politics. It's warping your brain. You're too invested in people who don't care anything about you. Go find a healthier hobby.
This is how you know partisan politics is a cult: If Biden were president and doing exactly what Trump is currently doing, MAGA would be freaking out and yelling about “libtards” running the government while Dems would start the bootlicking before the first bomb even hit. (The neocons are happy either way.)

Are the Democrats REALLY "against" tariffs - even now?
Or have they latched onto the reasoning of "this is an election year" and "the court ruled the tariffs unconstitutional" so we can "promise the voters a payday" by repealing something we've secretly loved the last several years?

There has been VERY LITTLE - I won't say "none" because it would take someone five seconds to post a link alleging something and an hour to debunk it - but VERY LITTLE opposition to the idea of Trump's tariffs. Indeed, they were so great that Biden not only kept (most of) them, he INCREASED them!!! (This inconsistency did not phase Karen Cat Lady Heather Cox Richardson in her post-menopausal rants about how Trump's tariffs were stupid but gave Team Blue their usual free pass, but I digress).

That's because IN GENERAL Democrats are not instinctively opposed to the idea of tariffs, they just need the money to come in for more spending. And whoo boy, how much better if those dumb Republicans follow their Big Oaf right off the cliff with the dumb spending.

The delicious irony, of course, is the GOP from the time of Taft has cringed at tariffs until this 1980s New York Democrat came onto the scene and the GOP primary voters put their collective manhood into a blind trust.

Everyone who had a remotely competent history teacher knew about tariffs increasing prices in the 8th grade and again in the 11th (at least where I lived). We studied it even more in Economics AND US Government my senior year.

And yet I watch my so-called "conservative" friends of the last 30-40 years all bend over even quicker to kiss the rump of the Wannabe King. Trump could come out tomorrow and say he was repealing those Democratic tariffs - and a substantial chunk of his voters would take to social media and insist the Democrats passed all those tariffs and raised all the prices to pay for 9-year-olds to have gender transitioning.

No doubt the Democrat's opposition to tariffs is just performative. (No different from Trump going on his cutting spending song and dance. I believe I read that for all the cuts to DoE, it's budget has actually increased.) The lack of basic economic competence in Washington is dismaying but not at all surprising. No nation can bring down the US. The only group that can do this works in DC.

When Trump said that the Democrats were the greatest threat to this country, he was not wrong. But, he was only half right. Democrats and Republicans are the greatest threat to this country.

Yup, there is always bootlicking going on by both sides but this current administration and congress has taken it to a new level never seen before and hopefully never seen again.

Look at the Administration's headline-makers. Starting with Trump, himself. Kristi Noem(now MarkWayne Mullin), Pete Hegseth, RFK Jr., Ka$h Patel, the whole "DOGE" carnival. If you take these people seriously, I don't know what else to say about your worldview.

Oh, and I left out my favorite lunatic in this administration: Pam "Blondi". The chick who showed up to a Congressional hearing sounding like a drunk PTA MILF after a two-bottle bender of Chardonnay.

We don't have a functioning FBI, we don't have a functionning Justice Dept, nor Defense, HSA, Health and Human Services. We have partisan hacks. with almost no experience in their jobs. All doing the bidding of an old man who is showing dementia. (Remember "Sleepy Joe"? I don't remember him running amuck on the world stage, edging on WW3.)

And we are told not to say what is painfully obvious: We are being ruled by idiots.

For those who do not remember how President Blowhard functions:

1) claim someone has made a key concession to you, lying all the while
2) repeat over and over
3) set a date for action
4) accuse the one who never agreed to anything of violating the deal and leaving you no choice but to take retaliatory acrion
5) claim over and over that you “won”

To give the tired example l always use…..Trump told the USFL owners that the NETWORKS wanted the league to move to fall and had promised big money if they did. But when the owners - all rich themselves, remember - asked for specifics, he couldn’t give any. Because he was lying. It ran through the courts, his side demanded $1.6 billion and got $3.18….. and to this day, Trump will remind you that he “won” the lawsuit in front of the jury. (Had he lost, of course, he’d have cried “rigged!”).

And don't forget the low hanging fruit he used of we will find all the wasteful spending (which existed btw) and we will disperse it back to you, the citizens. I don't know about you but I haven't received a penny yet...

Watch the markets for the truth. He makes these announcements just before they close so that things rebound and improve, only to come crashing down again when he reverses course and announces the next wave of bombings or the coming troop deployments. Meanwhile, his friends and insiders will have made bank on knowing when these fake announcements are coming.

The grift continues by the Epstein Administration.

I can't buy that argument when Thune is doing everything he can to sabotage the SAVE Act. But just for giggles and grins, let's say that is true. One can also make the argument that pointless opposition has been taken to new levels as well. Congressional Democrats oppose everything Trump does because, and let's all say it together, ORANGE MAN BAD!

As incredible as it seems, Fetterman is about the only congressional Dem who is more interested in the validity of the legislation/EO than who supports it. Yeah, he still mostly votes along party lines, but he's not afraid to talk about it while at least attempting to show some sense. The best we can get out of idiots like Schumer is mindless banter like four legs good, two legs bad Jim Crow 2.0! (Don't even get me started on Jeffries.)

Trump is truly a galvanizing figure and I can agree to a point that this has contributed to the political divide that is ruining this country. Nevertheless, the nimrods who allow this to destroy friendships and tear their families apart are still ultimately responsible for how they have chosen to react to all this. Mature discourse is rapidly fading to a distant memory and trying to put the responsibility for all that on one man is to completely ignore reality.

Donald Trump’s supposed ‘talks’ with Iranian officials were actually with a bunch of patio umbrellas in a White House courtyard, it has emerged.

Security footage shows The President speaking for hours to the umbrellas, urging the outdoor fixtures to “come to the table and make a deal”.

It explains the conflicting accounts about supposed talks between the two nations, which Iran insists have never taken place.

In a media conference later, Trump said the talks had been positive. “I had tremendous talks with the Iranians. Very strong, very positive.

“They were tough negotiators; they don’t give much away. But we’re going to solve this situation very fast in our favour. We’re close to something very big,” he said.

Observers noted a tense moment around three hours into the talks when a light breeze caused one umbrella to rotate slightly. Trump reportedly interpreted the movement as a positive signal, telling nearby patio chairs that “we’re making progress, big progress, they respect strength”.

The stock market follows his idiot follies like it's the God's truth.

Iran is now laughing at him, accusing him of negotiating with himself.

Hell, the whole world is laughing at him. But, we aren't supposed to criticize him lest we be accused of name-calling. :D
