I will play devils advocate for a moment. Just because Tua has a concussion this week doesn't mean he had one last week.

Now having said that last week sure looked like a concussion. Not only was he wobbley, but you can see him kind of shake his head at on point.
Agreed, but there was already a good bit of chatter / questioning following his return last week.

Occam's razor makes me think this is carry-over - the 'fins took a risk and it backfired.

That isn’t the point. He shouldn’t have been playing only 5 days later.

Edit: I realize now that I read your post backwards. Either way, I think it’s clear he did have a concussion last week.

Now that we know he's mostly ok, I'll say this.

Tua, we love you, you aren't Superman....get rid of the ball sooner. There's a reason Tom Brady has had such a long career.....he doesn't take many hits.

The dolphins and NFL medical staff that cleared him to play should be held accountable. I am sure Tua insisted he was fine to play and lobbied to play, but it was plain to see for everyone on Sunday that it was not a back spasm. They let him down, they should never have supported his return in just 4 days. I hope Tua recognizes the severity of these back to back concussions and gives himself time to heal. CTE is not to be trifled with.

And tell management to immediately trade or cut the left tackle, Armstead. He got Tua knocked out of the game and if Bridgewater hadn't escaped numerous times, he would have been in the room beside Tua at the hospital. That guy was TERRIBLE last night.

Tua probably didn't get hit much if at all in HS. He hasn't really learned how to protect himself whether getting rid of the ball sooner, sliding, or learning to brace your falls. Bind this with a warrior mentality and what you get is car wreck equivalent tackles.

I'm not taking the position this was not a concussion on Thursday night, but I will say that when a back spasm hits that your knees crumple. What I saw from the replay of his injury the Sunday before *COULD* be the result of back spasms.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
Maybe some of the physicians on the board can chime in, but isn`t this damage cumulative in its effect? My impression is that that`s how CTE comes about. It`s insidious in nature.
Concussion effects are cumulative, yeah, and the more you suffer the more prone you become to them as your career wears on. Take enough and eventually impacts that would rarely cause a concussion bring on symptoms.

But with regard to CTE, it's more likely the lower level, repeated impacts that lead to it. Think about an offensive lineman banging his head against a DT for years on end. May never suffer a concussion but could very easily develop CTE.

Miami head coach SWEARS that Tua passed all concussion protocalls last week and did not have a concussion. If they are lying, he will be fired.

If the 'Fins used an independent Dr. to run these tests there should be documents to prove he passed the test.

I realize anything can be "doctored" but, not knowing the ends and outs of the NFL concussion protocol, I'd assume these test results have to be shared and peer-reviewed.

Any doctor or staff would be insane to falsify a report. I would think that the blow last night triggered a spasm of neck muscles/ligaments/vertebrae that produced what we saw. He may have some sort of congenital defect that has been revealed through this injury...an MRI and CT scan will be revealing...

I cannot believe no penalty was called...the DL didn't just tackle him...he slammed him to the ground with force. Should be suspended.

The sideline doctors are independent of the team. They make a determination regardless of the athlete or team wishes. You're right, any doctor that would falsify the report is insane and probably loses medical license in the process. That's not to say they didn't miss something or tua was able to "fake" being ok last week.

But these couch doctors on TV & the tweeter commenting about how the sideline docs and Miami folks should be in prison, etc. are idiot click baiters. They are all self-serving.

1) Tua should have never finished the Buffalo game after that hit.

2) Tua should have never played on a 5 game turnaround after that hit.

3) Tua is going to have a short career if he doesn’t finally learn to throw the ball away on dead plays.

Too much playing with fire by both Miami and Tua and this is what happens. We can talk about protocol and Tua claiming it’s a back injury all we want, but anyone with a set of eyes instantly thought concussion on Sunday.

This. I've been there. Hell, I've been having spasms the last couple of days.

As for last night's injury, it looks to me that it was more of a whiplash-type neck injury from the way he was tackled... his radial nerves got pinched, leading to the fencing posture.

NOT a doctor, just someone with a long history of back issues.

You'd think that the way the league has been trying to protect QBs, that they'd do something about that type of tackle. Same type of tackle knocked McElroy out of the game in the 2010 Iron Bowl.

Folks, whether or not he had a concussion last week doesn't matter in the sense of what happened last night. That was a very violent tackle and hit. What I am trying to say is that Tua could have suffered no head trauma his entire life, then had that hit last night and suffered that exact reaction to it.

Obviously, if the Dolphins mishandled his treatment last week, then this is going to be the scandal of the century in a league full of scandals.
