Tubby blames '04

Nothing really earth-shattering. It's been known Tuberville and Lowder don't exactly see eye-to-eye (see JetGate 2003). Both have kept a wary eye on each other since. It's no so much that Auburn is struggling on the field as it is Tuberville making an excuse as to why they are struggling, and, if you read his words carefully, he's pretty much blaming JetGate of 2003/2004 for what's happening today (which still doesn't make a lot of sense to me).

What is the most likely senerio for Tubberville to be gone? Would he leave or would Lowder force him out? Is there a certain record (6-6?) which would give Lowder the excuse he needs?

Personally, I think he's been shopping around for the best available open slot out there. I know people have talked about his buyout, but, if Lowder wants him out, his pockets are deep enough to get him out. I have a feeling the feeling would be mutual between the two.

sooo 4 years later and 4 ( 07 ranked 7th, 06 ranked 10th, 05 ranked 13th, and 04 ranked 21) recruiting classes later they are getting beat by south florida because of the coup? interesting

I just read where Tubby is blaming the ill planned coup to get rid of him and the SACS investigation of 04 for them being shorthanded now. In other words, that is why they lost to S. Florida. Give me a break! This is the same jackass that will raise his five fingers in the air about beating us when we have been playing with 20 + fewer bodies during that period. They have only 4 players out of 29 from that class. What does that have to do with planegate and Sacs? They signed with barn didnt they? I usually dont post much but this hypocrisy is ridiculous. I guess they are "young "again.
He should just be happy that his dumb little butt has beaten "THE" Alabama Crimson Tide 5 years in a row.

But the offense is really built with other classes. Starting quarterback Brandon Cox signed in'02 (no, not 1802), but the rest of the early offensive stars are young. Leading rusher Ben Tate signed in January 2006.

Thanks, you make a lot of sense. Would Tubberville's next job still be a step up from Auburn or a lateral move? In '03 I would have thought he could have moved up. Do you think he's still a good enough candidate for a higher job? (sorry for all the questions but enquring minds want to know)

I bet Tuberville was rooting for Fresno State last week.

The musical-coach game gets pretty interesting this year. Michigan is the obvious first-tier spot, although there may be others by the end of the year. IF CLM goes blue, then the first-tier spot transfers over...

Several second- or third-tier jobs should be around. Mississippi State, Ole Miss (D'oh!

), Auburn... :PDT_mad:

Tubs, like him or hate him, is shrewd and knows how to play the system. IMO if he goes 8-4, 7-5 or 6-6 and beats Alabama he is safe. It would obviously be to his advantage, career and checkbook wise to leave for another job before Lowder fires up the jet. His stock is about as high as it is going to get with CNS across the state, so he needs to move, even if it is a lateral move: ie TAMU which may be his best bet. IMO, he would not be considered for the LSU job if Miles goes to UM; however, since he is from Arkansas, if Nutt is canned, which is highly probable then there maybe a vacancy in Fayetteville. I believe his options are dwindling and assuming either or both of these programs have an opening at year end he needs to make a move, even if he has a good season.

If I had to write an Auburn scenario, it would run like this:

The South Florida loss alerted Tubs to the fact that this season is down the drain. Lowder is whetting the knife. Somehow Tubs must cover his posterior. Like all old coaches (and bureaucrats, too) he knows the media can be used to advantage in office politics.

So he calls in Goldberg and tells the reporter he has a big story for him. This is almost impossible for any writer to resist. So Tubs and his assistants unload the tearful tale of how their recruiting was wrecked by SACS and Jetgate (which, as everyone knows, was inspired by Lowder.) Goldberg prints the tale, so Tubs has placed the blame squarely on his boss' back.

Then Tubs immediately begins praising Sylvester Crooms to the skies, most likely because he doesn't want Sly humiliating him further by running up the score Saturday. (This is not an impossible event, considering the SF game.)

Whether this will help Tubs or not, one can't say. It might make Lowder so angry he will crash the Auburn jet into Tubs' house.

Why in Hades would he goto TAMU? Does he have some sort of connections?

He was their defensive coordinator for one year before taking the Ole Miss job following Billy Brewer's firing.

I personally would prefer him to stay at least for a while longer. It would be to our advantage (long term) to allow for CNS and company the time needed to develop the strong relationships with state HS coaches, etc, while recruiting against the AU status quo and thus a known vs. the unknown traits of our in-state rival head coach & staff, rather than dealing with whatever excitement and such that a "new" AU head coach might bring to the table, should tubs leave in the near future. (IMO-of course)..

Besides, the aubs would have to be even more clueless than previously thought, (if that's even remotely possible) to dump the first head coach in decades to have such a lopsided W-L record against the TIDE!!

I mean come on!!! This staff (aub) has awarded itself more non-existent titles (SEC west division-co-champs, Peoples NC,) while winning ONE actual SEC championship along with ONE West division title during the past 8 years even though their biggest rival has been suffering from hororific self inflicted (OK give the ncaa a well deserved "assist" here) near fatal wounds, all the while having to feast on a menu of assorted 1-AA opponents lest their W-L record reveal their true coaching abilities..

Come on. They didn't lose that game because they had less talent on the field or on the sidelines. They lost for the same reason that the Cowboys lost last night - turnovers.

I can't stand Tubby, mostly because of the whole "one for the thumb" thing, but he isn't going anywhere until Bama beats Auburn. He can lose to all of the USFs on his schedule, but if he keeps beating us, his job is as secure as anyone else in the country...

I am surprised at how quickly AU fans have turned on Tubby. After SFU loss the newspapers and radio were full of comments about how bad they looked. There were several comments about "how can you complain about depth when you've been the coach for 9 years?" Now with the MSU loss it is already getting even louder. What happens when they need a win against Bama to be bowl elgible, and they lose?

And with the HUGE buyout Tubby negotiated after JetGate, they are stuck with him for awhile. Of course Borges is GONE, and several other assitants will be following him. Tubby won't hesitate to throw anybody under the bus if it will help him.

I just don't see why TAMU would want Tubberville. They paid a lot for Fran and he has disapointed. Tubberville seems like he'd do the same. And for Tubberville why would you want to coach another school that will always play second fiddle in their state? I'd say FSU (if it opens) would be more likely.
