UAB officials contacted LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher about the head football coaching opening at UAB and an interview is scheduled for Thursday. Fisher, 41, played and coached for Terry Bowden at Samford and also coached under Bowden at Auburn. Fisher has been the offensive coordinator at LSU since 2000.

It's unclear whether Fisher will come to Birmingham on Thursday or UAB officials will travel to Baton Rouge to meet with the prospective head coach. A source said on Tuesday that the meeting with Fisher is the only face-to-face interview that has been set up.

.......

It still appears that Fisher is the top choice as Watson Brown's replacement. Brown resigned last Friday after 12 seasons as the program's head coach and accepted the job as head coach at Tennessee Tech.

Rats!!! I was really hoping Rush Probst would get the job. It would get him out of Hoover and into a position where he was unlikely to accomplish anything more.

Jimbo needs a real opportunity and UAB ain't it. Probst would do well b/c it would a vertical move. I'm not terribly sure that the UAB position is a good career move for Fisher. He should hold out for something else, but then again, I dunno how other schools are. I do know that UAB as a school doesn't value the football team and that they are not an up and coming program.

Well, if they get him and continue to lose, it wont be Jimbo's fault. Jimbo should be interviewing for better jobs than this.

I agree. CJF is ready to be a head coach, but he should hold out for a better gig. They can't even fill the stadium by printing tix in the Bham News.

Probst would be too controversial for UAB. Not everyone associated with Bham athletics are fans of his or of Hoover. The hire would go over like a lead balloon in Mtn Brook.

1) Either Jimbo is the one who is making a rush decision (like many want Alabama to do) or

2) Jimbo is using this as leverage to get some other schools interested in moving on him before it is too late

Now that would be a "coup" for UAB in my opinion.

just for poops and giggles let them hire Fisher, we hire Stallings for a couple of years, if he does well bring him to the Capstone.( i am not serious):biggrin2:

A buddy of mine (FSU fan) said FSU would be courting Jimbo about the OC job. If i'm Jimbo, I take the OC job at FSU and perhaps eventually become head coach.

I am confused...I've lived in B'ham my entire life and I am totally baffled at why this would have any effect on anyone in Mtn. Brook. Samford is in Homewood (where Fisher went to school and played), UAB is hardly a school most Mtn. Brook students flock (unless it's med school after getting their undergrad from elsewhere). So why in the world would this have any effect on anyone from Mtn. Brook? And as for it going over like a lead balloon, I would think that the people from Mtn. Brook would be thrilled if he left Hoover...it would mean they might have a shot at winning something again. Since Rush has been at Hoover, Mtn. Brook hasn't done squat.

To make it clear Fisher played at Samford, not Homewood. The previous post made it seem like Fisher went to and played at Homewood High.

No it didn't! I said that Samford is IN HOMEWOOD...not Mtn. Brook. It didn't make it sound like he played at Homewood High...if that is what you got out of it, you didn't read it terribly well.

Also, considering that 99.9999% of the people on this board are originally from Alabama, they fully understand and know the difference between Samford University and Homewood High and have also read the original post that mentioned that he played for Terry Bowden at Samford. I was simply asking why Mtn. Brook was brought into this conversation at it has nothing to do with Samford University as Samford is in Homewood.

Much of the philanthropy which supports educational, cultural, and athletic facilities and activities in the city of Birmingham comes from old money, which is concentrated in the Mountain Brook area. UAB's athletic program in particular relies heavily on a few wealthy and generous donors in the Birmingham area. I know one in particular that ponied up personally to support Mike Anderson's raise in 2004. Inasmuch as UAB's patrons have ties to Mountain Brook, and inasmuch as their opinion of the coaching staff at UAB affects their level of support, then the opinion Mountain Brook people have of Rush Propst matters to UAB.

Don't get mad at me for your incoherent writing. You wrote, "Samford is in Homewood (where Fisher went to school and played)". You should have written, "Samford (where Fisher went to school and played) is in Homewood". That would have made sense. The way you wrote it made it appear that Fisher went to Homewood because you put the parenthetical statement AFTER Homewood, not Samford. I know he went to Samford, but I wouldn't from your statement.

Jimbo Fisher should be UAB's head coach. What about Rush Probst? RP could be their OC. How dominating would UAB be then!
