All of this nonsense can be undercut with the hard evidence we have based on Utah.
Utah was the media darlings of the 2000s, and this status was cemented when they beat an uninspired, disinterested Alabama team in the Sugar Bowl. The problem with the narrative was that they joined the PAC-12 a couple of years later. Prior to that, they had two undefeated seasons and several ten-plus win seasons. Since joining the PAC-12, they've had one ten win season, a couple of losing seasons, and have won just over 60 percent of their games.
It really does matter what conference you play in, and if you don't play in a Power 5 conference, you simply cannot schedule the likes of Austin-Peay and expect to be taken seriously.

Circulate as much as possible.

You see, Scott Frost (the UCF coach) came up with a standard to use for determining national champions back in 1997. Let’s look at what he said:

“"One, if you can look yourself in the mirror and say if your job depended on playing either Michigan or Nebraska, who would you rather play?”

So.....if your job depended on beating UCF or Alabama, who would you rather play?

More proof that UCF is the real national champion: Player from the team (Ole Miss) that beat the 2016 national champion Crimson Tide is transferring to UCF.
I think that settles the debate about who the real national champion is.

UCF is awfully talkative/confident knowing they will never have to play this year's playoff field of Alabama/Georgia/Clemson/Oklahoma. Gut feeling if any of CFP teams offers to play them in a exhibition game after the season (will never happened), one of two things will happen 1. The accepted but get trashed in the game (say 56-20ish type game) or 2. They politely turn down the requested, proving they are all talk/no walk.

So, I hope they enjoy their "Participation trophy" parade, because the REAL, THE ACTUAL National Champions will be crowned tonight.

Yeah yeah, all they want is the opportunity. The problem is, I don't see how that can happen. Are we really going to go to a full blown 16-24 team tournament? Because that is what it would take in order to include the G5 teams.

I'm absolutely not in favor of expanding the playoff at all. Since Alabama has participated in every one of these things, I've had a front row seat to what it does to the players. And it beats them down. People want to compare it to high school, and the lower divisions, which play these 16 or more tournaments. I would suggest that it works for them because the players aren't as big/strong, and rarely are any of them headed for the NFL.

The FBS, and to a greater extent the Power 5, are just on a different level. What should happen, and what I would fully support, is the G5 breaking away and doing its own NC tournament. BUT, that means they'd have to relinquish their take from the CFP. And we know that will never happen willfully, because a G5 tournament would never bring the money that their share of the CFP would.

The problem with this is they want the AP to use their vote to send a message...rather than honestly voting on which team is the best.

That is shady.

Very much so. It’s an unfair point they are trying to make in my opinion. They are saying so what if you are playing in bigger and better conferences. They are saying, “We belong because we beat 3-9 Maryland. They are P5, right?”

These guys didn't even have the forethought to Boise State their schedule. Boise State would play one, and just one good team in the regular season and then if they beat them and mowed through the rest of their cupcake schedule they would brag about how awesome they were. The problem is UCF scheduled teams like Austin Peay, but the best team on their schedule was Memphis. So, if you compared them pre-bowl games, they were 0-0 against top 30 teams according to Sagarin, while Alabama and Georgia were both 3-1.

Had they played a couple of good teams, had they been 2-0 against the top 30 coming into the post season, at least then they'd have been part of the conversation. But, it's like a European basketball team winning one exhibition game and declaring themselves NBA champions. This isn't a one game season.
