This could go in the main forum, but it talks alot about CMR and why he needs to be gone and how the best players in the state are leaving to play elsewhere. So I put it here because CMR selling the dream team is not working and using religion might not be working. Every reason we here players might decide to go UGA is because of reasons that even UGA fans do not believe. I also have heard that Fran was friends with CMR, but he seems to want him gone.

re: CMR's UGA football program & recruiting: Fran Tarkenton says UGA ‘is in big trouble’

This interview is very telling and apparantly this opinion of alot of UGA supporters right now. We as rival fans can see the truth and the writing on the wall that CMR is going to be fired soon, but did not knwo if the instate GA players believed it, but since everyone in the state seems to be unhappy with UGA you can imagine that players like Crowell and others are hearing all the time now which does not bode well for recruiting.

I also like the part where he says that Vandy and Kentucky do not belong in the SEC. I hope their fans were listening, especiall Kentucky since if they win their bowl game they could end up with a better record.

re: CMR's UGA football program & recruiting: Fran Tarkenton says UGA ‘is in big trouble’

The Dawg fans are barking loudly and howling about CMR. Soon someone is going to get bitten. ;)

Xzavier Dickson, Isaiah Crowell, and the Importance of National Signing Day to Mark Richt's Future with the Georgia Bulldogs - Dawg Sports
At last night’s Under Armour All-America Game, Xzavier Dickson announced that Athens was his second choice, committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Georgia Bulldogs. Insult was added to injury when, as expected, Quan Bray snubbed the ‘Dawgs in favor of the Auburn Tigers. There are indications that Isaiah Crowell may declare Georgia the runner-up in the battle to secure his services, as well.

After a disappointing haul last February, the Bulldogs need to bring in a stellar bunch of signees this year. While Georgia is putting together a very solid class, the Red and Black are losing ground relative to their rivals. Recruiting rankings are subjective, and high ratings in February do not guarantee championships in the fall, but no team can compete without high-caliber athletes, and nowhere is that more true than in the Southeastern Conference.

I fear that last night offered an early indicator of the answers to donkeydawg’s questions. I don’t want to go to the extreme of suggesting that the future of the program hinges on the decisions of a couple of kids who have yet to declare for whom they intend to sign on the dotted line, but, at this stage of the game, every little bit hurts. If a third straight disappointing season is followed by a second straight disappointing recruiting class, the downward trajectory may have entered a tailspin out of which the current coaching staff cannot pull us.

Tough news for UGA fans. The man's right though, recruiting is big business. Todays recruits do use consultants usually their HS coaches. Another noticeable fact conveyed in this podcast was the strength and conditioning element and how UGA ranks dead last in the SEC. UGA has more injuries than any other SEC team per season (that I know of) it starts with being conditioned for the position. Recruits should pay attention to these factors when making their choice.

The lithmus test on Georgia's recruiting class is still ahead. Yes, it was big that Dickson picked us. Bray to Auburn, not so much. At this point, it would be an upset if we don't get Malcolm Mitchell.

But if the Dogs whiffs on any combination of Drew, Rome, Swan, Crowell and the big JC nose tackle Jenkins, this class, no matter its final ranking, will be considered a major disappointment. And the Richt regime, which could lose most of its top playmakers on both sides of the ball to the draft, plods into next season with next to no momentum.

Re: UGA disintegrating

Richt can flat out recruit..It's hard to pull a kid from Georgia going head to head against Richt..Richt's problem is coaching them up..He's had enough talent to win it all a couple years he's been there..He just hasn't gotten it done on the football field..JMO

Re: UGA disintegrating

richt's problem has never really been a lack of talent
Bingo. Georgia kids want to play for Georgia, so I'd wish we'd drop the references to payoffs (particularly since we're not blameless on that front.)

In the end, Mark Richt must decide if he really wants to work this hard to rebuild his program. His comments that he plans to get back to watching more film this year were shockingly revelatory.

He may be celebrating his 2011 class, but he continues to have discipline problems on his team -- another suspension announced today of Washaun Ealey, who apparently didn't turn up for a punishment detail from any earlier screw-up. Wonder how CNS would handle something like that?

And if truth be known, Alabama is already leading the assault on Georgia's 2012 class. By several accounts we lead for Jenkins, the state's top recruit. Looks like Dillon Lee, a stud linebacker out of Atlanta-Buford, is dying to play here. We already have Dakota Ball and the top kicker in the 2012 class -- another Georgia kid -- committed.

With the resurgence of Florida State and Auburn, Richt is hemmed in and will have to fight like never before to keep his state's best kids. For all the momentum he has from Signing Day, his make-or-break team could easily start 0-2. I'm not sure he has it in him to fight through all of this much longer.

Re: CMR's UGA football program & recruiting: Fran Tarkenton says UGA ‘is in big troub

Richt did what he was supposed to do-lock down the majority of in state talent. It's the homer media here the started all the "dream team" junk. The media here just can't help hyping Richt. Even when he's been down these last two years, they'll still create gimmicks to praise him.

I don't think one good recruiting class is going to help. Ealey is suspended and maybe gone and Caleb King could follow him. If they go, UGA is very thin at RB, even with Crowell.

If UGA ever gets a competent X's & O's coach, who carries himself with passion and great work ethic look out SEC.

Georgia is a talent rich state. Probably number 4 talent wise behind Texas, Florida and California. They have very little instate competition kind of like LSU. With all the problems on and off the field recruits still want to go there. If they ever become successful on the field they'll clean up in state and cherry pick the nation much like Alabama does. They're a sleeping giant. If they had a Saban or Meyer, sheesh who knows what would happen. Thank You Georgia for retaining Mark Richt!

If I'm not mistaken a recruit said during a interview Richt wanted him to be apart of the"Dream Team"..And media ran wild with it..

Re: CMR's UGA football program & recruiting: Fran Tarkenton says UGA ‘is in big troub

Sorry, RJ, the media -- as the Mark Bradley blog cited on this thread indicates -- have been hammering Richt all season. After the bowl loss, several AJC columnists openly questioned his ability to lead.

That said, Georgia surged during the last weeks of recruiting. Most folks think Crowell, Drew, Rome et al were essential to Richt rekindling any kind of support. That Georgia finished so strongly in its 2011 class was the first legitimate cause for celebration in Dawg Town for months, which the media appropriately noted.

Ironically, the key recruit may have been the one we thought we had. Had Malcolm Mitchell stuck with us, Crowell likely would have come with him. Drew and Rome were shoe-ins. Mitchell's change of heart really helped fuel the Dream Team mojo.

well, the last one they had was arguably Dooley. They do have a boat load of talent here though, and Ga Tech isn't doing too much to grab any of it.

ill be interested to see how he approaches spring and summer practice this year. they have been playing soft since 2008. also, they are going to be mighty thin at RB, WR etc. of course, none of this bothers me much, because i love seeing the puppies wallow in mediocrity.

Re: UGA disintegrating

When was the last time UGA was relevant consistently from year to year? Since I've been alive, they have never been void of stud, superstar talent from Herschel to Garrison Hearst to Robert Edwards and Hines Ward to Terrell Davis to Champ Bailey to David Pollack to Matthew Stafford and AJ Green. And all they've got to show for it is 4 SEC championships in the last 30 years, 2 of which were at the very front of those 30 years. I've never really understood why with all the all-world talent they've had such a hard time reaching the pinnacle of college football.

I was worried about UGA before the start of the season last year because, much like Houston Nutt, Mark Richt's teams underachieve greatly when things are expected of them and they sometimes greatly exceed expectations when nobody expects anything from them. But with all the talent that's been there, there are very rarely low expectations in Athens. But once I saw them play South Carolina, I knew it was a wasted year. They weren't interested in tackling ANYBODY
