Question: Under what circumstances would you like to see AJ get some PT?

GMac did not get alot of meaningful snaps in 2007 & 2008 when he was JPW's back-up and he did just fine in leading us to a national championship as a starter in 2009.
While that is true in that particular situation there were some special circumstances and nothing to indicate that it will happen again with AJ as a green starter in 2011. McElroy had been in colege for three years prior to his start. McElroy is a Rhodes Scholar Candidate after all, so that has to mean that he is a quick study. I'm not saying that AJ isn't or won't be, but we can't know that now. Even with all of that, McElroy had that 3 game mid-season slump. He was fortunate that the running game and defense could carry the team through that (and just barely). There's no guarantee that AJ will have that luxury or that we will escape a mid-season slump against SEC competition. CNS must have a fair amount of faith in AJ's abilities or they wouldn't have been close to taking off his redshirt last year during McElroy's slump. I trust whatever the coaches decide, but I don't think the idea should be dismissed out of hand.

It is strange that people are saying gmac had an off game I understand he took some sacks, but the game plan had basically devolved into "win it for us." He was just trying to make plays. He had a good statistical game, but if we aren't running the ball what can we do?

Completely agree. Amazing how many people want the backup QB to get more reps just because of one loss. We didn't lose the game because of GMac. If he hadn't been slinging the ball around for 315 yards, we might have lost by another TD or two.

We lost the game because we couldn't stop USC from driving the ball down the field on two time consuming drives in the second half.

Bear used to give the backup a series or two every game regardless of the score, didnt cause no controversies just gave the backup experience. I would like to see this happen again, the Tejas game is a prime example of the backup being baptizied under fire. By playing a series in each half gives both qbs a different perspective on the game, the starter can watch and see how the defense is playing and reacting to different formations.
