UPDATE: Confusion surrounds Sheffield incident

Police remain uncertain how to resolve confusion surrounding a weekend altercation at a local club that involved a man claiming to be an Alabama football player.

Sheffield police were called to the Fiesta Club between 1:30 and 2 a.m. on Sunday morning to break up a verbal altercation.

"We have a complaint involving an allegation that at the Fiesta Club, the individual was placed under arrest, but just before that he stated he was a University of Alabama football player, and he broke and ran," Sheffield Police Chief Doug Aycock said.

Initial media and Internet reports Monday linked Tide linebacker Freddie Roach to the incident, but sources within the UA program said Roach has told the coaching staff that he was in Tuscaloosa when the Sheffield altercation occurred.

To be honest, i don't think anybody was actually up there that was part of the Tide football team. It was some idiot claiming that he was.

Also by refering to my map Sheffield is way to far away for an ALABAMA football player to be away from Tuscaloosa for just a night club, C'mon there are enough bars and everything in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham all within an hour that are probably better than one 3 hours or more away!!!

Possibly, but there was no practice Saturday and some of the players probably went home for the weekend.

Idea

Hear/speak/see no evil ...

;)

(Seriously - i have always held this forum & mods in high regard but my respect meter just shot over the top.)

On the local news (ABC33/40) in B'ham last night they kept mentioning Freddie Roach as being involved in this incident. In this mornings news they're backing off of that statement. Personally I don't think its true. From what I've read about Roach, he's a solid guy. I can't imagine him being involved in such an incident 5 days before the season kicks off.

You've gotta love this quote...

I came across this jewel a few minutes ago.

"UA media relations spokesman Larry White said there would be no comment from the university."

"It's hard to comment on something that hasn't happened yet," White said.

Yeah, it has to be someone just setting our team up.

Think about it... this happened at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They are just now getting around to pressing charges? If the police knew that it was Freddie, wouldn't they just go ahead and get him?

Also, why on Earth would someone identify themselves to the police before making a break for it?

None of it adds up. I think it will all be cleared up today.

Bamabound 2006 - Freddie was in Sheffield that day, but >>

he said he was back in Tuscaloosa by 10:00 that night because they had practice Sunday morning!

Also, the players were released Friday after practice and he drove home then and spent the night with his family. However, he says he was not in Sheffied at 1:30 in the morning.

Also, it would be a 2.5 to 3 hour drive to T-town from there and would have meant that he would have returned between 4:30 and 6:00 am!

On the humorous side of things...

It was pointed out this morning that this is the most exciting thing to happen in Sheffield in a quarter of a century.

Sheffield could be one of the most run-down places that I have ever visited. Growing up in muscle Shoals, 'cross the good side of the tracks you could say, we didn't go to Sheffield for anything.

Now, I don't want to run down someone's home town, but I doubt seriously that there is anything that would draw a young man like Freddie Roach over there.

I am going to guaran-damn-tee you that this is a setup of some kind.

I smell citrus.. As in, Orange...

I live 2 miles from Sheffield and I can drive to T-Town in 2 hrs. I've done it several times going to A-Day and the ball games. I wasn't speeding either.

I don't know about that statement being true. There is crap going on all the time around here. This sure isn't an isolated incident for the area.

Where is the Fiesta club located? I saw somewhere they said it was next to the TVA intersection. Exactly where?
