Link: USA Coach's Poll

You're exactly right. I was listening to the radio yesterday and one of the sports talk guys said that if Ohio State beats USC and wins the Big10 they should play for the NC. Well, what if USC and the Big10 suck this year? Even if USC is good, what if there are more teams that are undefeated or with the same number of losses that played more than one tough game?

In the preseason everyone just assumes that certain teams will be good, but look at Michigan last year!

If Ohio State leisurely walks into another BCSCG this year I will be very frustrated. How many times do they need to get beat down before someone else gets a shot?

For us old guys, it sure is weird to see teams like Wake, Fresno St., TX Tech, Brigham Young, S. Fla, ahead of ALABAMA in the polls, any poll. I still have to do a double take. Livin' in the past this morning, I guess.....

As "Kung Fu" Master Khan says patience grasshopper patience.

Anyone else find it odd that a talented Michigan is #24 with a patsie Schedule saying there might be growing pains as the Wolverines get used to a new system.
Yet aubie gets a free pass with a used Trogan?

And why is Alabama Polytechnic Institute ranked so high? With two new coordinators, only five players (I believe) returning on defense and a new quarterback taking the snaps, who couldn't lead them to victory over MSU, and only scored one touchdown (passing) against NMSU, isn't even 11 a little preposterous?

I honestly believe that some of the Auburn love is panic over LSU's quarterback situation. As soon as Perrilloux was shipped off to Jax St, the talk went from "Auburn needs another year to adapt to the spread" to "Auburn's knocking at the door."

I don't know why folks can't just fess up and say that the SEC West is a Charlie Foxtrot. Gotta fill up column inches and radio time, I guess.

Bingo and spot on! I think LSU's OL and running game is going to be good enough to get them going until their QB can get comfortable with his WR's. And conveniently enough, LSU has 3 gimme's to give the QB time to do just that. Please spare me the Appy St. paranoia, LSU will abuse them.

Also, for all the talk about how many plays AU ran in the peach bowl, they scored a total of 17 points in regulation against a team that gave up on average 18 pts/game. What good does it do to run all those plays if you can't score??? Not to mention that was one game after a month off. Will their OL be able to hold up that kind of pace through an entire SEC season?

Also, Bama returns 15 starters to a team that never lost by more than 7 to anybody, national champs included. They say a team always makes it's greatest improvements with a new coach in the 2nd year. Well, not only is it the 2nd year, but we just had a massive influx of talent the likes of which hasn't been seen around here in a VERY long time.

With all that said, IMO the WEST is absolutely wide open this year. I actually think you'll have a round robin situation this year where AU beats LSU, LSU beats Bama, and Bama beats AU so it's up to how the teams play the rest of the season that'll determine the West. I like Bama's chances just as much as those of both types of Tigers.

I know what you mean. Thing is, I really believe we'd beat any of those teams, but after the LM fiasco, we have to earn our respect back on the field. Which is as it should be.

Clemson got a generous boost to #9 after finishing last season with 4 losses at #22.

I don't mind Clemson getting a boost like that. It will make us jump higher when we beat them. ;)

I like Georgia at #1. I think that LSU and Florida may be about 5 spots too high. Auburn should be in the #20-#25 range. Tennessee is about right.

As far as non-conference, Oklahoma should be ahead of both OSU and USC. Texas should be nowhere near the top 10. Wisconsin should be in it.

One thing that I do not understand. Almost every sportswriter that I read predicts that Bama will beat the Barn this year. But the Barn is ranked much higher in all the poles. I also know that we came really close to some big time victories with some top programs, well, not Tennessee LOL, but LSU, and Georgia. We filled the cupboard up really good. I would say that we will be much improved over last year. I really belive that this team will gel together, and have a great season. And at the end, we will be top 10.

Bingo! Bama's got as good a shot in the West this year as anyone. It's WIDE open. You can probly throw OM in the discussion now that Powe and Trahan have been cleared to play. They'll be a dang tough team to beat this year.

When we actually do it the rankings will come. We will be challenged all season long by ranked teams and if we can take them down we can continue to move up in the rankings. That is when the press will start showing the love we once got when Alabama was one of the elite programs.
