Everyone keeps talking about USC's 3rd national championship, but
really only its only its 2nd.

If I'm correct the AP which awarded the NC to USC broke their agreement with the BCS. They were Required to award the NC to LSU that year. So really it s a BOGUS 3rd NC.

They were as much National Champions (and Problably less worthy) then as the Barn was Last Year

This Article Sums it up Pretty Good

That's what I've been thinking. USC (officially) didn't win the 2003 "BCS National Title" which is the one that is "officially" recognized by college football. The AP can give the NC to who ever they want but it doesn't mean it counts or should count.

One thing that really gets on my nerves is when people say LSU won a share of the national championship in 2003. They won the BCS. No share, no partial, the whole thing.

USC will not have a three-peat if they win it this year. Go Texas!

Come on, guys!

You all know that different "rules" apply to schools like USC, notre dame, mitchigan, etc. The media darlings will win a "three-peat" becasue they will deem it so. Get ready for the hype!

I don't uderstand what the big deal is...Alabama has three peated twice already; '64, '65, '66 and '77, '78, and '79.

You can count 12 if you like, I count 14!

It really makes me sick with all this fawning over USC. They are a very good team, perhaps even a great team, but they are pushing them as the best team ever. That's bunk. Like the guy from LSU said " LSU is a paper champion". It disgusts me more that the media fought tough and nail to sway voters to vote for a one loss USC, but had absolutely no regard for an undefeated Auburn last year. Even more, if Alabama had gone undefeated we would've been left out too. The media just doesn't respect the SEC like it should. I live in Pac 10 country and let me tell you. The Pac-10 is only marginally better than the WAC or Mountain West or whatever that midmajor conference is that doesn't play defense.

I hope Texas beats them like a drum, I think they are a great team and have accomplished alot, but the media has crowned them champions forever, They said the same thing about Oklahoma and Miami after they ripped off a few good years and as always they falter, sometimes you just get a special group of players in, I'd say Auburn is in one of those cycles, but eventually your luck runs out, you may feel your backups are good on paper and can keep it going, but then it just doesn't work out.

On Paper Auburn should beat us for the next 100 years, but you can count on the fact that they won't.

This kind of ticks me off. People always want to discount some our MNC's based on when they were or where they came from, whichever is more convenient. Who decides which ones count and which ones don't?

According to this NCAA page, we were awarded a title in '66 and in '77 which means we've already done it twice.

According to this NCAA page, the NCAA only reckognizes BCS titles at this point. Or at least that's what I infer from it.

The NCAA does not conduct a championship for Division I-A football. Instead, these teams participate in a national championship system developed by the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) organization.

I don't mean to take away from what USC has done. They are a great team and they've earned every win and deserve their kudos. But how much respect can any team from the PAC-10 ever really deserve?

This is crazy. We count national championships that others don't. Should we say then we only have six since most only recognize AP? No. USC will win three in a row. I think that most are just tired of hearing about USC. Texas has not played but two tough teams. Mack Brown is half the coach that Pete Carroll is. USC has won 33 straight yet some try to discredit them. Rediculous. If we had been in there situation, I guarantee you that we would be claiming a threepeat. Just look at some of the posters here claiming the '77 and '66 champioships. Get a grip guys. USC has had a phenominal run and to say otherwise sounds like jealousy.

roll2tide,
I give them alot of respect. UCLA beat us two in a row and USC beat Auburn two in a row. Lowly Arizona State took LSU to the wire and ASU is what, 5th in the PAC-10?
USC hasn't played the pansy OOC schedule that we have the last two years.

Do you not understand that before the BCS, there was no wholly AGREED on method for selecting the NC's? The BCS was created to eliminate the very controversy we're seeing now and most importantly, USC, like everyone else AGREED to it.

More importantly than that the AP agreed that all their voting members would award the NC to the BCS winner. So by awarding USC the AP title that year, They broke that Signed Agreement. I Think LSU should take it to court. LOL ;)

College 3Peats

.... there has only been one true three peat in college footbal... while we claim the 60's and 70's as three peats and USC will if they beat Texas... the University of North Alabama is the only team to do so under Coach Bobby Wallace in 1993, 94, 95....... but i do have to say,..... hook em horns......
