Texas #1 & earned it on the field...

...certainly not through the media.

Texas won the game and has the hardware to prove it. When everything was on the line, they answered the bell.

Congrats to Texas. As a fan of college football, it was a Super game to watch.

You Shouldn't Embarrass Yourself

USC lost that means they are not the best team.
It does mean they had a tiger by the tail with one of the best QB's I have ever seen and it does mean that sitting out there on the left coast with a cupcake
of a schedule year after year doesn't mean squat when it comes to playing a quality team. Texas was the best team on the field last night and unllike basketball you don't get a do over later on down the line. give it up SC is the loser this go round and Texas has the bragging rights for a year.

I'm not going to say I agree with the poster's premise, Texas won the game and they are the undisputed 2005 national champion. But to me those looked like two pretty evenly matched teams out there. Both of them looked head and shoulders above the rest of the field to me. I think our defense would have slowed down USC but there's no way we could outscore them and I doubt even our defense would have had an answer for Mr. Young. To me Young was the difference, the two teams were pretty evenly matched, but Texas had a phenomenal player out there who took the game over. I won't cirticize Brown either, his record speaks for itself. Had it not been for Stoops taking over at Oklahoma and their ensuing rise, Texas might have been in the NC hunt every year for the past few. Congratulations to Texas. I used to not really care for the Longhorns, then a certain Fraud took over at College Station and I became an instant 'Horns fan (at least for a couple more years anyway).

was it me or did reggie bush just not play very much tonight.. he didnt touch the ball alot or something .. i think that was the big difference in the game .. yes texas' d contained him but sooner or later he is gonna break a long run such as his td run , the next to last play in the game and his screen pass and then his lateral ( i do think that was a smart play on bush's part on the lateral but the two players much be on the same page and one wasnt and bushes pass was a little behind the teammate) and oh yea the two ref. blunders gave texas a little bit more of a boost too.. not making exscuses for sc but i do believe these are probably two of the most evenly matched teams ive ever seen. and not to question cpc but why was reggie always on the sidelines for the important plays?imho on the 4th and 1 at the end of the game i would have put white and bush and a fb in the back field and stack the line and run a sweep to bush and let his speed take him to the corner.. but with that type of play something might happen.. JUST ASK BO JACKSON HAHA

I think what the game last night proved is that they are two pretty evenly matched teams. Throw in a couple of bad calls, it could have easily gone either way.

Southern Cal is still the best team in the Nation. They were not tonight thus they lost the title. They got upset in historic fashion. Unfortunately for them this isnt boxing where they c/d rematch and win 64-30. Vince Young is great but SC is better. They win 9 out of 10 with Texas. unfortunately for SC this was one of them.
stupid nonsense comment you could work for espn talkin about sc like that....better team won last night sc played the best game they have played since last years title game and i think they played better than that. its not an upset when you get beat by a better overall team...good job horns

Yeah, he's 82 - 19 in eight years at Texas. Terrible head coach. Maybe the "suckiest" ever
I've got three names: Ricky Williams. Roy Williams. Cedric Benson.

I'll throw another in on the defensive side: Derrick Johnson.

Some of the best players of the last ten years all played for Mack Brown. None of them got titles. If you can't coach up the kinda talent he has had to a title, then you obviously do suck. He finally got such a great talent, that he would have had to sabotage his team to lose. I don't respect him. Never will. If Alabama had his second stringers, we'd be undefeated too.

Hey guys I do not have a dog in this hunt!!! I do not know who the best team is. Texas was the best team last night but barely because they won the game. I will say this though if they played again tomorrow night or any other night and I had to bet my money no way I bet on Texas I bet on USC every time. For you guys that act like the original poster is silly come on get a grip, it happens all the time that the most talented team or best team does not always win!! This may or may not be one of those cases!!!! I bet money though that USC has twice the amount of number 1 draft picks on their team than Texas does so that is why alot of people still believe USC is better even though they lost!!!

They may be the most "talented" (even that is debatable) team in the nation...but there is nothing anyone can say or do to show USC is the best. They aren't. The best team is Texas - who won the national championship by beating USC in Los Angeles.

I don't see what is so confusing. They don't play 10 times...they play once - and Texas won. Both teams were aware of what was at stake.

The arrogance that oozed from USC made them ripe for the taking. Come on, "USC vs. the greatest teams in college football history...USC WINS!," pure and total BS. They hadn't even won the championship at that point (and they still haven't.)

Furthermore, if anyone looked at the poll on ESPN Sportsnation between Texas and USC - you'd see ALL of the South, Oklahoma and Ohio were the only states to pick Texas. Funny that those states are by-in-large the ones that really know their stuff when it comes to football.

USC not a great team

USC is a very good, but not great, team. No great team coughs up 23 pts per game. For comparison, Alabama's 1961 NC squad allowed 25 pts the ENTIRE season.

Yes, exactly! USC is definitely the best team despite not winning the championship!

Tubby has even declared them the "People's National Champions". Expect a trophy presentation by Wingnut himself later today.

Actually, no. They aren't.

See they played this game called a "championship." In that championship they keep track of a thing called "points."

The team with the most points..."wins."

USC is not one of the greatest teams of all time...they arent even the best team of 2005. Maybe ESPN can run a month of promos now for the best 1 loss team in history.
good one player ;)

i think if we include the last 3 or 4 years, USC ranks up there with the best of the best over a span of consecutive seasons (i.e. UA a couple times, OU, ND, etc) . However, not having to play 7 or 8 tough conference games each year makes their accomplishments a bit less impressive IMHO. The hype they were given just set them up for a bigger fall in the end. The best 1-loss teams would make an excellent ESPN Studios production :D

This thread is so silly. USC is a talented team but they made way too many mistakes to be considered the better team. And about that "phantom touchdown," well yes his knee was down but the way Texas was moving down the field it would have been 1st and goal at the eight and they would have eventually scored. So quit with your sour grapes. USuCk might have lost a couple games this year if they had played any teams with defense, and Notre Dame doesn't count. Its over!

Brett makes an excellent point by saying that USC has clearly been the most dominant team over the past few years. 2 national championships (or 1.5, whichever) is impressive for some teams and their existance...much less over three seasons. I dont think anyone could dispute that.

USC is a very talented team. I think most people in the south (Alabama voted larger for Texas than any state besides Texas) believed USC was a paper tiger that wouldn't react well to being hit in the mouth. Texas did just that. Moreover, Texas clearly had something else no other team that USC faced had...the ability to match their playmakers move by move.

It was a great game and Texas made more moves. HOOK 'EM.
