USCe opening/Kirby Smart concerns

I guess I just don't care because:

a) worrying about it won't change it anyway

b) Nick Saban won a national title with Will Muschamp as DC and an SEC West title and #1 ranking with Kevin Steele.

That tells me that while KS is important, he's not the whole bowl of wax.

He's won a title with Jimbo Fisher as OC, Jim McElwain, and Doug Nussmeier.

The names all change but the coach stays the same.

I feel the same way to a certain extent. CNS and KS really work well together or so it seems. Their continuity wouldn't be instantly replaced.

To be honest, I think Miami would actually have Lane Kiffin higher on their radar than Mario. Lane, despite some people's dislike of him, is heck of a recruiter and qb coach. Miami needs to take the South of Florida back from UCF, and Lane could do that, but the biggest question about him is can he develop better into an in game coach and not step on the Ad's and BOT's toes too much. Lane to Miami could be one of the biggest shake ups in the ACC and Florida power struggle. While you can try to argue that he is a failure, you also have to debate the questions that who could succeed in a later life Al Davis's system with no HC experience, and who could've succeeded at USC under substantial scholarship sanctions with Oregon and Stanford benefiting tremendously already from them. Lane's ego has been a subject of debate ever since him and Al got into it over Jamarcus Russell and bringing Monte to his staff, and you could also put his shots at Urban and some of the apparent chatter that goes on with him here as well. But what goes behind closed doors is only said after the fact, and Lane's side never comes out.

As far as Kirby, I think USCe or some Midwest team would probably be his best bet if he really wants to go to HC. Just IMO

Layla in South Beach, oh my, the pics in my head!

Am I the only one in here who doesn't think CKS is a lock to replace Saban? I respect him as much as anyone on here and know that his recruiting and coaching have been key to our recent run of success. But I don't think he's a shoe-in. Personally I think we take a good look at Dabo.
Dabo may merit some conversation one day, but that's all there will be. Dabo has too many ties to the Dubose regime that nearly destroyed Bama football. Bridge burned.

But answer to your question, no- you are not the only one thinking CKS isn't a shoe - in to be the next Bama HC.

If this was 5 years ago then I would say ks could be a serious contender for the job, but muschamp and mason have shown great defensive coordinators should be taken more cautiously. Unless cks has some success somewhere else like Mac then I would say bama goes outside of the family to replace CNS. Plus battle, or whoever the ad is, is going to try to make a homerrun hire and I doubt Cks is, until proven as a hc

Agree 100%.

Just opinion, but I think Mario would be higher on their list because of his relationships with high school coaches in south Florida. Many still don't understand why he was fired at FIU.

It's really anyone's guess in what Miami would hire. All of the Miami hires in their history have been head scratchers with the exception Howard and jimmy.

If Miami wants to just have another al golden and Ericsson then mario is their guy. I seriously think there is far more upside if they get Lane.

I may be proved wrong, but IMO Kiffin is better suited for the NFL. He may have to start his comeback as an OC or QB coach and after a few years may find a team willing to see if his re-make has been successful.

Saw something from a Maryland website yesterday indicating they would like to make a run at Lane to replace Edsall. If Layla and the kids won't leave LA for Tuscaloosa, I don't think they'll go to College Park, Maryland.

Baltimore is a lovely suburb.
