Smith's "consultant" called in to local radio this morning and gave his version of what's happening. To hear him tell it, the riff is basically a clash of egos. Smith runs workouts in the style of "x", whereas Kiffin wants them run in the style of "y", which is basically the way they ran them at southern cal. Kiffin is the boss, Smith is his employee, Smith doesn't want to do it Kiffin's way, so it looks like Smith will be out the door.

There is also some speculation that Smith wants full control of the gym, i.e. no former players, etc. Kiffin supposedly is trying to welcome the former players who seem to want to hang on and be a part of the program.
I'm not sure I believe that completely. Seems to me there would be a little more to it than that, but you never know.

If that is all there is to it, as much as I hate to say it, I'm with Kiffin on this one. The boss has the right to run things as he sees fit.

I still believe Kiffin is an immature arrogant fool :).

It could be a case of lame kitten telling Smith that Smith would run the S&C program, and then tried to step in and not let the man run it. Do you think Saban would be here if Mal Moore could veto Saban's rules?

I have no doubt that kiffin is an idiot.

He definitely has the right to, but hiring a top notch S&C coach who produces results and then telling him how to run his workouts is just plain dumb. It's micro-managing at it's best.

Smith has a great reputation and was probably one of the most qualified coaches on that staff, so his departure could hurt.

Here in Arangeland there are beginning whispers of the S&C coach not willing to give players "build em up supplements" and Kiffen wanted them to have them.

Amazing, and the saga continues on Rocky sTop.

And to think that Lame Kiffin has not even coached a game yet. Not all publicity is good, no matter what those hillbillys think.

'Roids have always been a central part of the Vol's S&C program. That's why they always had a lot of arrests in August - Phats took a while to get the dose dialed in right. So Smith may have been messing with a hallowed tradition here.

Kiffin has not earn the respect of others. The Ed Orgerons and others are easily duped when dollars signs entered into the mix. Some people refuse to work for arrogant snot nosed coaches who have yet to prove themselves. UT Strenght Coach might just be one. A man of principle. JMHO if I had to guess he was ask to do something against the rules and refused. He must feel strongly about it or he would not leave. $190,000 at UT and $140,000 at USCe. I doubt its personality, more on the lines of principle. There are men who will not compromise right for wrong. :BigA:

Maybe it's just a big misunderstanding. Coach O was just trying to give Smith instructions on ripping off his shirt and Coach Smith misunderstood "yaw, yaw, hmpunnughmm, AAArrrggh, Brett Shaeffer, yaw, yaw" to mean "You're fired". :)

Im on board with ya,, Sometimes one infraction can be career suicide with the NCAA in charge. This way Mark Smith can coach anywhere he wants and retire anytime he wants instead of letting one arrogant snot nosed coach put him on the blacklist.
