Weather thread, Part III

Pulled out the weather radio this afternoon to check the batteries. Prepping for the storm spotter activation. Got bike helmets and my hard hat sitting in the basement. This one may be bad.

No clue why but my wife has developed a phobia of storms recently.

Praying for all affected..... 🙏

Violent tornadoes spawned from an enormous storm system that touched down in at least 7 states Friday night into Saturday. Jason Allen reports, and Andrew Kozak has the forecast.

Portions of the Ohio Valley and mid-South regions are facing a major, life-threatening flood danger as multiple bouts of heavy rainfall impact those regions in the second half of this week.

Rainfall totals could reach 10 inches or more in some areas in what the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, is calling "generational rainfall amounts" for their area of the mid-South.

Life-Threatening Flood Risk From Mid-South To Ohio Valley Could Produce 'Generational' Rainfall Amounts

A week ago today, we had a weak tornado go past , and I mean by feet, my house ripping several trees up by their roots in the wooded area next to me, travel up my driveway(300’) blow out the windows in my neighbors garage, cross the road and suck up my across the street neighbors back deck and the above ground pool it surrounded. They are gone, who knows where they landed . We have about 70 trees down within 500 yards of my house. Fortunately, no trees fell on houses, only minor home damage, no trees fell on powerlines , so no power outages, Amazing. IMG_0789.png

The magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck about 13 miles southeast of Greenback, Tennessee, shortly after 9 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. USGS said the quake hit in east Tennessee. That earthquake could be felt in Georgia. Check back for updates on the latest. Knoxville Police TN posted on X: "Yes, that was an earthquake that many felt in Knoxville. We have not received any reports of injuries or damage."

Here yesterday.

I was out trying to finish up the day's work when the storm came through.

In fact I was at Home Depot checking out and the power went out so we couldn't finish the transaction.

IMHO, the way they portray this story sounds like catchers who move their glove closer to the plate after catching a foul ball.

Lifeguards are supposed to understand the dangers from lightning. The fact that they were late in getting the warnings out may have been a factor here.
