70% of the money won't be on the winning team when this game kicks off; that's whay the line moves.
When the line moves it's because too much money is on one side...when the line keeps moving in the same direction it means most money is on one side and that is their attempt to find the point spread which balances the money....

A few years ago Vegas took a huge loss in the BCS games (the year Boise upset OU, if I remember right)

We are going to win this game. I thought the distractions would hurt us in the other, but not this time. No way Saban losses to Miles three times in a row, or twice in a season.

They also took a big hit in this year's Super Bowl when Green Bay beat Pittsburgh.

Not always...when 70% of the money is on the winning team, they lose money
UMMMM......it's very, very, very rare that 70% gets put on one side!! The whole POINT of the point spread is to get money evenly matched on both sides, where Vegas (or bookie) gets half the money PLUS the juice!! Folks need to remember that just because the point spread is, lets just say Bama -1, that doesn't mean Vegas believes Bama is the better team. They don't care who the better team is.....they want equal money bet on both sides no matter what. That IS the reason that the point spread moves. If too much money gets bet on one side, the spread moves so they will entice folks to bet the other way.

Anyway, Vegas doesn't lose money very often!! I mean, all the odds are in their favor!!

Right, but swings and money discrepancies happen both in Vegas' favor and against Vegas. In the long run, they win because of the juice, even if they take a loss on one game.

Juice is the commission that the sportsbook or bookie takes for profit for taking the bet.

For example, lets say the line for the BCS game is even and I bet $100 on Alabama. If LSU wins then in most cases I would lose $110 - the $100 that I bet plus a 10% commission for losing the bet. If Alabama wins the game then I would win $100. It can vary depending on who you bet with, but most of the time you will only pay juice on a losing bet.

Depends on whether you are betting a money line or a point spread. Most bookies that play the point spread, take the juice on winning bets. It would be almost impossible to collect juice from the losers. In the case above, the winner would get $90 in winnings from the bookie, plus the original $100 returned.

i've always paid the juice on a loss
So you are having to put down $110 to bet $100 when betting a spread?

That is common when betting a money line, but I have never heard of that when betting the spread on the street.
