Maybe my favorite concert of all time was seeing Roger McGuinn in the mid-‘90s at a venue called Janus Landing in St. Petersburg, FL.

Janus Landing probably doesn’t exist anymore, but the setup was perfect. Perfect weather in March or April. A good crowd, but not so crowded that you had to wait in line to get a beer or tolerate somebody else’s beer breath.

It wasn’t a huge event. Maybe 300 people total, if that. But a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Totally different band, but kind of similar guitar sound….did Peter Buck of REM get that jangly sound on a Rickenbacker?

Yes, Peter Buck played a Rickenbacker. Tom Petty plays one on some of his songs also.

Fender Telecasters have a unique tone also. It’s a thunky sound that’s very identifiable. A lot of country guys play these. Keith Richards does also, but the way he sets his up it’s not as noticeable. Gibson Les Pauls have a noticeable tone also.

Gordon - a drummer - played the piano coda on "Layla." He clearly had a firm grasp of melody.

Right on the tails of the Beau Brummels and the Byrds, the Lovin' Spoonful were among the first American groups to challenge the domination of the British Invasion bands in the mid-'60s. Between mid-1965 and the end of 1967, the group was astonishingly successful, issuing one classic hit single after another, including "Do You Believe in Magic?," "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice," "Daydream," "Summer in the City," "Rain on the Roof," "Nashville Cats," and "Six O'Clock."

Byrd Burton could play any type of music but he was especially good with a bluesy sound.
And of course, Stick on the piano.

Edit: Stick was on bass, Hooker was on keyboards. Old age and bad memory has set in.

I saw them shortly after that, first time - June 71 with ABB, QMS and Chase at A Warehouse.
I had never heard of them and when I saw BG’s short hair, I wasn’t enthusiastic and I was pleasantly blown away.
