Yes, Peter Buck played a Rickenbacker. Tom Petty plays one on some of his songs also.Maybe my favorite concert of all time was seeing Roger McGuinn in the mid-‘90s at a venue called Janus Landing in St. Petersburg, FL.
Janus Landing probably doesn’t exist anymore, but the setup was perfect. Perfect weather in March or April. A good crowd, but not so crowded that you had to wait in line to get a beer or tolerate somebody else’s beer breath.
It wasn’t a huge event. Maybe 300 people total, if that. But a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Totally different band, but kind of similar guitar sound….did Peter Buck of REM get that jangly sound on a Rickenbacker?
Fender Telecasters have a unique tone also. It’s a thunky sound that’s very identifiable. A lot of country guys play these. Keith Richards does also, but the way he sets his up it’s not as noticeable. Gibson Les Pauls have a noticeable tone also.
