Gary does know the game, after all he was an NFL quarterback. He fully understands what's happening on any given play and can explain it immediately to the audience. My problem with him is he just doesn't know when to shut up. He needs to make his point and move on.

I think he is disingenuous, He says oh I think Bama will win. But really hoping they lose. Then when they start winning he all of a sudden changes his attitude, Everything is all of a sudden negative that BAMA does. SURLEY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO NOTICE THIS.

Bud, you make it sound like mind control.

I understand your point. He knew far more football then me. That's why when he is a hater he can be very creative and sounds "right".

My point is he dislike Alabama football and tried to use his expertise to distract the audiences and ultimately scouts/players and coaches. That's I'd like to pay attention and that's what I don't like.

Sounds like GD is almost as powerful as the REC.

I'm in the camp with all the people who don't think Gary is bias. I think he's a wealth of knowledge when it comes to football. Can he be a bit long winded on certain subjects, yeah. He is much better than about 80% of the announcers calling these games. I think if he had a better partner he would be looked at a bit better. Verne, imo, has seen his better days. I think he needs to hang it up, and CBS needs to look at replacing him on the crew for next season.

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

Its very simple if you have a dvr and internet connection to synch the radio broadcast with the tv broadcast.
^This^

Although, yesterday was an anomaly. Eli & Co. were 6 seconds (or so) ahead of the TV. Generally, they range from 2 to 15 seconds late. Some of that seems to depend where the feed you are listening to is being streamed from.

Well, he is paid to talk. If he did shut up, his bosses might decide he was unnecessary. What they could replace him with has the possibility of being much worse.

As has been mentioned, he works for CBS, not CTSN. He isn't supposed to be Eli & Co.

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

I like Danielson a lot. He calls it like he sees it, and since Bama isn't perfect, he sometimes points that out, which is his job. He has an awful lot more positive to say about Bama than negative. I think he's fair and usually, right in the vast majority of his comments and analysis.

Everyone has their own opinion, which is fine, of course.
Yeah, I think he is fine. Some people are just too thin skinned about any criticism. Instead of thinking hey, he might be right. Many people think, hey, that sob said something bad about my team. I'd like to stomp a mud hole in him. It's typical and sad, but it is also true. Bad grammar gets on my nerves, but I don't waste my time correcting people here. For one, they would say how dare that person correct me even if he is right; I'd like to stomp a mud hole in him. Secondly, most people with bad grammar don't seem to value education or learning in the first place, so it would be a waste of time. Roll Tide!

On this point, I would agree.

I wasn't suggesting he needs to be pro Bama. There is nothing wrong with making a point and moving along.

Sorry if the way I put all that together suggested it was all in reference to you. It wasn't. (Trying to do more than one thing at a time, and address more than one post at a time. Best I stick to working on what I am supposed to be working on: work!)

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

Its great to be a Bama fan. We are 10 games into the season and 9-1, we just knock off the #1 team in the nation and no one ran onto the field to tear down the goal post. And the hottest thread on our board is how much do we love or hate a tv color analyst. Have a look at the university of aubarn, LSU or Florida boards they are in meltdown.

Thank god I was born with Crimson Blood. RTR

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

The fact that every team in the SEC thinks Gary is out to get them or biased against them tells me he's doing his job correctly.

I give Gary credit for how much work he puts in. He clearly knows his stuff and has seen enough film or live game action to pick up on tendencies teams have and point them out before they happen. He does a great job of breaking down plays to where even the most thick-headed among us can understand the play.

His lone black mark is one that many announcers have - not knowing when enough is enough. Too many announcers want to squeeze in all their notes and information nuggets. But the truly great ones know when to dial it back and let the game and crowd do the talking for them.

I have no problem with Danielson at all. I think he's the best in the business next to Todd Blackledge.
He really is just honest. We shouldn't have a problem with that.

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

I'll give my $.02

I think Gary is a very good, knowledgeable analyst. He's given some great interviews on radio.
He's just a terrible tv commentator.

I don't think he is biased against AL most of the time.

Like others have said, he talks too much, and nitpicks the negatives too much.

He will go on and on about something a player should have done or could have done better or different, instead of talking about what a great play the opposing player made.

He brings up too many tidbits and facts that really mean nothing about the team or this game.

His attempts at humor are just terrible.

The thing that bothers me the most is that sometimes it seems like he and Verne are watching another game or don't even have a video monitor to look at.

They miss when flags are thrown and wonder what's going on for forever.
They see a flag thrown and go on a tirade about how that player did this and should have done that and has been called before and has been doing it the whole game. THEN, when the ref speaks it's a different penalty on the other team on the other side of the field and I have been shouting at the tv the whole time what the penalty was because it was plain to see from my television.

Things like that happen several times per game. They can't even seem to get it on a review half the time.
A couple of weeks ago we had a review on a pass play about the players foot being in bounds and I screamed at the tv as loud as I ever have because Gary was rambling on and on about the catch instead of the foot which was the cause for replay.

I have become immune to mistakes and mispronouncing of names.

Other than that....

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

Not those negative comments about Alabama, CNS or .....y about how we should've been caught for more PI, false start, holding, illegal emotion etc.

I hate him the most about how he tried to manipulate the mental thinking of QBs.

As a former QB himself; he knew how critical the confidence is to play in that role. He continues to bring the seems-right-actually-pretty-ridiculous arguments and use his commentators’ role to pressure and influence the audience/scouts and hope it could eventually affect the players playing style.

e.g.: Last year, he challenged AJ's arm strength. (Actually Todd McShameless also repeat the comments and got burned by AJ in the Kentucky game). This year, he continued to challenge Sims's deep ball ability and his performance on the road.

In the LSU game and the MSU game, he plotted two charts and claiming Sims does not have the deep ball throwing ability.

What's so wrong about these charts? Big Ben once said: Even every QB in NFL can drop a 50 yard bomb easily; QBs are not trained to throw that often. They've been trained to throw 5-10 yard one time and move the ball gradually and successfully. No QB can throw 20 yards or more consistently. If you plot manning’s chart in super bowl that would be miserable. Actually plot any QB’s chart it will be high dose of 5-10’s and occasionally 20’s. That chart is quite misleading.

On Sims’ road performance, come on. Who won the game for us? Who led that championship drive like AJ did in 2012? Of course road game is hard, SEC road game is even harder. Everyone may suffer, that’s why there’s sth called home field advantage.

What I want to bring here is I hope our fans can understand that haters hate, and sometimes they are smart and they’ve been creative. If we buy their arguments, follow their logic. We may end up expecting Sims doing things not on the best interest of our team. (Remember what AJ did in the Suger Bowl, he proved he can throw deep, so what?).
You need to go back and watch the replay of our first possession in the 3rd quarter. Gary had nothing but praise for Blake on all 3 plays (it was a 3 and out). He even said Blake had a nice pass chart and pointed out all his downfield passes.

I like Danielson. He knows a lot more about football than I do. Sometimes he does beat a dead horse.

I like Allie LaForce a lot better than Danielson. CBS should give her more air time.

Re: Why I really hate about Gary Danielson

Deep ball conversation applies for aj than Blake. Blake can get a job in the nfl for his legs alone. He possibly can be a Percy harvin type guy. Without deep ball capabilities AJ either needs to find a team looking for a qb for a cheap price or start applying for a job for the SEC Network because he is not going to make it if he doesn't change. So Gary was right about AJ's future but his chart about Blake's game against lsu was more showing what he was attempting. I think Gary has praised Blake more than he has put him down. Yesterday he actually made a great deal of praises about him. But to each there own
