Question: What is that patch on Trent Richardsons forehead during games?

Prolly to keep his helmet from gashing his head open. Or it could be to keep his 3rd eye from being poked out by Brandon Spikes. Or maybe he's trying to quit smoking.

When I played football many years ago, the padding in the helmet would irritate your forehead sometimes. My take on it is that the patch on Richardson forehead keeps the skin on his forehead from getting irritated.

Looks like "turf tape" (and adhesive tape most frequently used on elbows etc to prevent carpet-burn like injuries on astroturf.) As other poster noted, helmet pads can chafe the forehead until it is very painful to even put a helmet on.

College programs fit players with the helmets. They aren't like the high schools, "just go pick one out".

Most helmets are the same, some are thicker.

Pretty sure this is the case with Trent. He isn't used to a helmet being so tight and it's irritating his skin. But I'm sure it's worth it.
