What is the "Bama Offense?"

I've seen reference several times to the "Bama Offense" and that we run our offense regardless of who the OC is (same with defense). I don't understand X's & O's very well, but it seems like we've had a couple of different version during Saban's tenure. We've been a run the ball/play action pass/pro-style offense under McElwain/Nussmeier and then a more open spread/RPO/QB & Receiver focused offense since Kiffin.

Are the OC's being forced to run what Kiffin installed when he was here or do they have the freedom to do their own thing? Have there been changes in terminology under different OC's? Are some of these OC's (Rees, Daboll) not capable of understanding the "Bama Offense" like Kiffin & Sark?

The “Bama offense” doesn’t exist. And I don’t mean that because our offense is bad this year. I mean it’s literally a myth. Every OC we’ve had has tailored the offense to his liking and the players we have. There’s no such thing as the “Bama offense”. You can pick any random year you want, and things look different every time. It’s just another tired narrative that’s not real.

The Bama offense this year is whatever Rees is trying to call. What he's trying to do in game is anyone's guess, cause it appears to have no rhyme or reason. He's not calling any slants or quick outs, no bubble screens or RB screens..........

You know what he is running though......long developing WR routes. Knowing the OL can't stand up that long, knowing the QB can't read the defense. No matter, because that's what the call was. He's not setting anything up, he's just calling plays. My guess is he's doing it in way I would call NCAA football 11 plays.....except I'd run different plays out of the same formation based on the defense.....so maybe that doesn't apply here.

That's only true in the sense of set plays. The 'Bama Offense' is a concept.... pro set terminology, groupings, blocking techniques, etc. This way players get consistent communications from the coaches and are not learning a whole set of new things everytime a new coach comes in. There are no set plays just how coaches communicate the way players are supposed to execute those plays

But it’s not. We have run all different kinds of formations and schemes, from wide open spread to downhill running. My point is there is no “Alabama offense” other than to say it is simply whatever offense Alabama runs. People keep trying to force this narrative that the “Alabama offense” must be this or that, and it’s simply not true.

Someone else on staff needs to take over the OC duties or help Rees and then he needs to be gone next season unless he starts tailoring the offense to the QB.

Well according to Kiffin, someone has already taken over the DC responsibilities lol. Gotta love Joey. But I’m the troll…

Slants have definitely been called, as have several other quicker route concepts. Those have been open at times also, but the ball isn't being thrown. I don't recall many outs or bubble screens, but we've also had the RBs out in the flats pretty often - again, very few throws to them even though they've had some oppties. As I've said before, these shorter passing concepts really do require a tremendous amount of anticipation and timing. While the throw is shorter, and doesn't really require the massive arm strength, if the QB doesn't get the ball out on time, we get what we got on the last INT JM threw against UTw. Burton was OPEN when we was supposed to be, right as the turned around, but the ball was just very, very late so the NB closed the gap. That late in the play, the read had to be over the top to the other side. To be clear, JM has a pretty fast release once he starts his motion; that isn't the issue. The issue is that he often doesn't even start his motion until after the ball should be thrown given the route being run. It seems he's waiting for the WR to be open instead of throwing to where the WR will be open. Until he's able to fix that issue, Rees is pretty limited in being able to take advantage of the short passing game to try to slow down the rush with fast developing plays.

Noted, yet we are still going with the guy that can't make the throws that are needed.

" tailoring the offense to the QB ". IMHO the ONLY chance we have to avoid disaster this year with Jalen as starter moving forward. He has abundantly demonstrated the things he can and can`t do in the passing game. Somehow, some way, the offensive plan has to emphasize what he CAN do. Whether it`s enough to avoid said disaster remains to be seen.

I just finished watching the game. #74 missed nine total blocks (I mean obvious whiffs). there are several linemen (especially 74, 56, and 71) that are consistently turned around watching a sack or a tackle for loss. This was the game to send a message and put these guys on the bench. IDK, but maybe the backups are just as bad. Is bucket step bob somwhere on this staff again?

Yeah, they're bad

Dude made the biggest defensive hit we’ve seen in crimson since 2017.
It would have to improve to be bad. I don't get it, all the players were highly rated recruits. Was it bad coaching or poor evaluation? The OL has been bad from the moment Marrone showed up on campus. So far Wofford hasn't improved it like I thought he would.
