Question: What is the Points spread?

This may have already been put on here before, if so I am sorry to bring it back up, but does anyone know what the spread is on this game?
It's OK. It comes up periodically. Last I heard, it was around 4-5. If we were playing a team without the number and wealth of fans which UT has, it would be higher. Remember that the line is an artificial device to make sure the money on each side is equal, so the bookies can make their money out of the middle. It really reflects where the betting public's heart is rather than a rational predictor of which team will win and by how much...

Is there an over-under for the game? Also, if someone says a team will cover the spread and that they'd "take the points" what does that mean? Thanks.

It means that they think the favorite will win, but not by the alloted spread.

In other words, if Bama is a 5 point favorite, and someone thinks Bama will only win by 3 points, they will take Texas and the 5 points.

45 is the o/u. Cover means the favorite will win the bet. Take the points means the underdog will win the bet.

Thanks, I've always wondered about that.

Well, 35-10 would be a dream come true but 24-21 seems more likely in what I think will be a hard-fought 4 quarter contest...RTR

Yeah... the 4-5 spread is definitely going to hook people who think it will be a touchdown difference either way.

i went to vegas this yr before the season started. i was going to put $20 on bama winning the natty champ. my last day there the computers went down and i didnt feel like walking across the street to another casino. im kinda glad i didnt place the bet since i am superstitious about betting on bama games. i doubt it would affect the team but it would have given me a stroke by now.

What were the odds? I imagine the money line would have turned $20 into a significant return.
