What is the thumb and finger

My alma mater, Oklahoma State, does a similar hand gesture. It's kind of representative of a six-shooter, because a lot of cowboys carried those.

The French use a similar technique when surrendering.

the way I understand it...started with Leach a few years ago when they'd won a big game and he left the field pretending to shot in the air. It's just one of those *things* that caught on...

Funniest moment of the game...literally, a laugh out loud moment was seeing Harper pretend to put two guns back in the holster after a big defensive stop.

As the alphabet indicates...K comes before L. Great job by Kines for this game...simply outstanding.

I thought it was Simpson who holstered the 6-shooters.

i didn't realize what tt was doing with the fingers till later, my cousin watching the game with me just kept going LOSER....but then when i did realize what they were doing, i remembered simpson doing that and laughed...just a little late :) anybody know when in the game simpson did that? what quarter?

It's a six gun

I guess we were just to poor up in West Annsiton in the 50' & 60's - heck we even used sticks for guns - but if you were in a gun slinging contest - the ole finger was the quickest gun in town, and easy to holster too. ;)

Just A Texas Tech Tradition!

I did some checking on the TT website and here's what they say about the hand sign:

gunsup.jpg

The hand sign of Texas Tech is the "Guns Up" which was created in 1972 by a Texas Tech Graduate who was attending law school.

The sign is made by extending the index finger outward while extending the thumb upward and tucking in the middle, little and fourth fingers to form a gun.

The idea is that the Red Raiders will shoot down their opponents. The Guns Up sign is the widely recognized greeting of one Red Raider to another. It is also the sign of victory displayed by the crowd at every athletic event.

Hmmmmmm, I guess this is one time it did NOT work!

RTR!
