McNeil has a great visit to Bama, calls the PC off on Sunday, then on Monday his coach says that is inaccurare and he commits to AU on Tuesday. Gibson has been "considered" a Bama lean the entire time and now there are rumblings that AU could sway him???? And now today apparently Corley has committed to LSU? This after it was thought all along that it was a Bama-UF battle, and when he decommitted from UF I thought it was a done deal that he would be coming to Bama. Is it really just a case of too little too late, or is there $omething else in play down there? This is sickening because Mobile was loaded with talent this year and it appears we might be completely striking out down there this year. I don't regard any of these guys as a "franchise" player, but they are all good enough to contribute to a championship team. What is the problem here????

I have no idea but i am a bit worried as well....Kerry Murphy isnt from Mobile, but he is also considering going to Miami over Bama....i cant believe all of this right before NSD

These guys have connections with players on these teams. Once we breakthrough and get a couple, we'll have the connection and its over. :BigA: :BigA:

I lived in Mobile 1985-88 and for some reason many down there like out of state schools.F$U,LSU,SMiss,Miss ST,UF,etc. The only place in state worse is Huntsville where Ucheat has many fans.

There is a big mix of fans down in Mobile. Not only Alabama and Auburn, but LSU has a very big fan base, Miss. State, Florida, Florida State, and others. I'm from there, and I know fans of all of those schools. I actually went to school with about as many LSU fans as Bama or Auburn fans.

Then you consider that LSU is closer than any other major college. It's not surprising that Mobile is a kind of fair game for a lot of different programs.

IMO, the big difference with the kids nowadays is that they have grown up seeing some of these rival teams winning on a consistent basis, while Bama has basically been on a downslide for the past ten years. Winning again, consistently, is what will get us back in the driver's seat for most of the instate preps. I expect to see things swing our way within a few years, because even with the better talent our rivals have stockpiled we have been able to play competitively most of the time against them . . . we just haven't been able to finish. I think that will change under CNS.

I believe that Bama's arrogance has cost them in the recruiting area. Our previous coaches didn't have to recruit hard, because Bama would always get good players...without much effort. We got lazy in Mobile, and the Aub's and Tiggers started raiding it. It will take years to make up for the damage that has been done.

What is for sure is that Siddell really didn't like Bama, because he had an offer, and seemed to be interested in anyone but us.

I hope that he and the "felon" have good times in BR.

Perhaps we should have waited until after recruiting season to fire our previous staff. We not only have lost several 4 star recruits leaning heavily to Bama but some that were committed.

Things are seldom as bad as we make them out to be and rarely ever as good as we claim. The new coaching staff are not really magicians and/or miracle workers.:rolleye2:

Mobile area high school top player trends over the past few years:

St. Paul's- Louisville, LSU
UMS- Alabama, Marshall
McGill- LSU
Davidson- Auburn, South Carolina
Daphne- West Virginia

I think the key will be to re-establish solid relations with area coaches.........& that will take more than a few weeks, just before NSD. JMHO. Besides.......it ain't over, 'till it's over! :rolleye2: ;)

Mobile is to Alabama as New Orleans is to LSU. LSU always has a hard time getting kids out of NO for some reason, perhaps because most of the people in the city are from somewhere else, plus it is a port city with a lot of different people coming in and out, which might explain why few NO recruits go to LSU. Mobile is also a port city that is exposed to a lot of different people from different places. Perhaps that plays a role in why Mobile kids seem to go elsewhere.

Excluding the probation era from 2000-onwards, how did Bama do in Mobile? Has Mobile been an area where Bama traditionally had trouble?

LSU has gotten outstanding players from Mobile... JaMarcus Russell, Chevis Jackson, Corley, and Phelon Jones are just a few

It has been pointed out to you already that we picked up just as many 4* since Saban has arrived as CMS did. Fortunately the losses have come on the offensive side of the ball where we have more depth and the gains have been on the defensive side where we need more help.

Right now, we seem to be everyone's common enemy in the SEC. UT and the barn continuously team up on us because we are their common rival. LSU is also on their side now since Saban was hired. MSU and Ole Miss are always in battles with us over Mississippi players because we have historically recruited well there. If you take a quick look at the UT and Barn message boards, the common theme is to bash Alabama relentlessly. There are more Bama bashing threads than there are threads about their own teams. We desperately need some good PR and good news to come our way. It seems every time you turn around, we are being bashed relentlessly by the media, whether it's in State or nationally. It's going to take time to dig ourselves out of the slump and negative press that has been a common theme for our program the last ten years. The other SEC schools are doing their best to try to keep us down also.
