Comfort food: Pasta Bolognese or taco chili (frozen quantities of both in the Basket Case freezer).

Healthier option: Salmon in an Asian preparation, with sides of sauteed haricot verts and corn on the cob.

Okay Mr. Sophisticated, I had to look up haricot verts! Here in Gurley we just call 'em " them skinny green beans". :)

My go to is brown rice with red beans with a medley of stir fried veggies on top.

Depends on what you mean by 'go to food'.

Do you mean what is the standard I order when we go out to eat? That's filet mignon, cooked medium-rare.

Do you mean what do I generally prefer when I prepare food at home (which is 99% (or more) of what I eat)? That's rice or eggs and ground turkey.

Do you mean what is my 'desert island' food which I could eat every day and never get tired of it? Probably pizza, so many varieties possible.

My default choice when going out to east: sushi

My default choice when I'm at home and calling the shot: steaks

My wife's default choices in either event: a rice dish or soup or rice soup

Lily: She loves to make some sort of pasta dish. She wears out the pasta maker. She prepared homemade ravioli stuffed with assorted cheeses for the first time last weekend. She tends to create her own recipes. Very tasty but had the thickness of a brick. LOL! That's why it's called "trial and error." :D

At home: either protein shake (with avocado and strawberries blended) or chicken/green beans; scrambled eggs.

Eating out: chicken, well-done steak, sometimes Salmon. I also love vegetables. We eat pizza once a month too. If I knew I would not gain weight or have health issues, I could probably eat pizza daily. lol

Dessert: anything chocolate, Nothin Bunt Cakes, Key Lime Pie (depending on who is making it).

Snacks: pistachios, almonds, cheese, sometimes cheez its

Had my annual check up yesterday. New doctor - young and very cute! Super efficient and great personality. Had some productive discussions so I'm pleased.

When the subject of healthy diet came up - I asked her what kinds of foods she liked.

Her reply: eggs, avocados, and salmon.

Pasta doesn't agree with her, she said.

I'm the guy who is always peeking at what other people have in the shopping carts. I do most of my food shopping at our Walmart Supercenter. Have had some really fun conversations with fellow shoppers. Zero bad experiences - zero. People love to talk about foods and cooking.

One of the deli ladies tells me her husband makes their chicken salad and he uses rotisserie chicken to start with. Thought that was interesting.

I've enjoyed reading this thread - thanks everyone! Good stuff!

I had an orthopedic exam yesterday -- shoulder is giving me fits. The resident was a cute young lady and I could have been her grandfather...when she asked me to take off my shirt so she could look at my shoulders, I just about died. I still have little or no body hair from the chemo. I told her and she laughed...I didn't want her to think I was a 72 year old shaving my body.

As far as food -- we've been doing A LOT (JUST ABOUT ALL) our cooking since I've been immunocompromised and cannot go to restaurants. I am amazed at how little we can get by on...I've even learned to like yogurt with blueberries and strawberries for breakfast -- and granola of course.

I buy the rotisserie chicken at Costco. Bring it home put it in a pan, cover with foil, put it in the oven at 200 for a few hours, breast side down. It falls off the bone. So many things you can do with it.

various chicken dishes. I like to smoke two whole chickens; half of one is dinner that night, the rest gets shredded and put in the fridge. Then over the week we have chicken enchiladas, or salsa verde casserole, or whatever else I have fixings for.
