Based on a quote in this article from BamaHammer, DeBoer is strongly hinting that last year’s QB wasn’t able to (or refused to) go through progressions.

That statement would be entirely consistent with your observations that last year’s O in Simpson’s few appearances was materially different from the O under the starter. And that there was more installed than was called.
very interesting comments from coach, and from the reporter who said coach never mentioned the former QB but was making a clear distinction between the past and his hope for the present/future. When you can trust your quarterback, certainly seems to imply that former QB could not be for whatever reason.

I'd add to there being more installed than called (which is certainly true), but that there was a lot called, but not executed. There were often routes called,, that were early in the progression, executed correctly by the WR, and WIDE OPEN, but that were not thrown to by the former QB. When TS was in the game in his limited reps, he'd make the passes and execute those on those routes as called.

I LOVE what coach said about how Ty capitalized on the 'gimmies' on the x post in the article though. Something to the extent of: Ty takes all the 5 yard gains that turn into 15 to 20 that sometimes turn explosive and always keeps the chains moving.

I actually think Ty will end up being a more effective runner than Milroe….hard to truly run read based plays when the qb can’t make reads fast enough such that the “read” is actually pre-determined. Ty has good enough wheels that he should be pretty good on the run/read plays…enough so to keep the defense honest…I actually hate the comparison for obvious reasons but Ty sort of reminds me of the Stidham kid that played at one of the other schools in the state…

honestly hope we never have to have him run a read option where he's the keep read. Penix didn't at UW, BY almost never did here; Mac Jones probably never did. Tua ran just a little b/c of the transitory period between him and Hurts. We don't have to have that in the toolkit to be very effective. The only run/pass reads we should have should be reading to handoff to the RB or pass. If the QB runs, I hope it's a scramble cause none of the routes were open on pass play and the D left a lot of green grass wide open in front of him.

About offense?
About defense?
About special teams?
About coaches or players?
About anything else?
1. It’s clicking and the oline is outpacing expectations. If our oline finally clicks it doesn’t matter who the qb is (at least till the playoffs)
2. Swagger with results. D line surprises etc
3. Fg kicker comes in hot
4. D coaches are really gelled and locked in. Last years d coaching appears to have been a bit wonky or shall we say dysfunctional. Would love for those guys to be of one mind and ready to attack
5. I absolutely LOVE a camp surprise. Don’t care what position I just want an out of the blue player to push for playing time or outright take the starting job. Perhaps a supposed bottom rb goes nuts all fall camp and ends up being the #2 guy

I like the mindset of our quarterbacks,” DeBoer told assembled reporters in Tuscaloosa when asked about the three-way QB competition between Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell, “because when you can trust your quarterback to go through his progression and to be okay with checking it down and not forcing something, you can call, as a play-caller, a lot more balls down the field, and know that’s it’s not just going to be an incomplete pass or an explosive play.”

I bet he can see that mushroom cloud from Seattle.
I watched his presser on YouTube this morning and this is the one comment that really stood out to me. It spoke volumes about JM's inability/unwillingness to do that and what they are now seeing with the '25 QB room (and likely and specifically with TS)!

I think this answers the question that was posed yesterday about which offense we'll see this year. It will definitely be more like what we saw with CKD/Grubb/Penix. Yes, I'm sure they'll adapt some things for TS (assuming he's the starter) but it'll be the offense that CKD wants to run not the one he had to run, like last year.

It's not that I don't want to hear anything from the players, it's just that there is no real reason for them to be mouthy. The last time they were on the field they got humiliated by a team full of 2's. Alabama as a program is not coming from the top looking down, they are down looking up and they need to get that straight because you don't climb any mountain without blood sweat and tears. The first step in changing is to always recognize where you are.

As for the OC. I think it's more than him alone. Last year DeBoer acted like a ship captain who got holes blown in his ship hull on the first day he arrived. It's like most of his effort was just to keep the thing afloat, something I think he barely was able to do. Not from lack of effort, but from the combination of the GOAT leaving the program in a era of free player movement. This is not the last time we will see a program implode like that and I think for many programs it will be worse.

But that was then and this is now. The gaping holes in the hull are sealed and he's actually looking at what's on the horizon. Having a top OC now also gives him a bug gun he didn't have earlier. I'm not saying Bama is back. That remains to be seen. I am saying at least we can set course and attack someone.

I wasn't going to start a new thread so I'll put it here. I was watching a podcast called "Crain and Co" and Josh Pate was a guest. They were addressing the QB situation and discussing the differences we can expect between last year and this year. Pate made an interesting comment, he said, "It won't be said publicly, but privately the coaches will tell you that last year the offense was handcuffed by inconsistent QB play and limitations with the QB. This season, there should be a more cohesive, structured offense on the field."

I wonder if Ty has progressed during the offseason or if they saw the same traits last year? If so, the next question is obvious...but we won't go there.

Injury free going in to game prep.
Specialists had something click and will be an asset this season.
Offense has gelled and is a cohesive unit.
Defense has a mean streak and backups have developed and are pushing the starters for their jobs.

We won a lot of national championships under Saban with QB's who did this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I hope Ty continues the "game manager" mentality that has brought us A LOT of success in the past.

Yep and I’m definitely tired of the Chatty OL players and then they go out there and give up the 2nd most sacks in AL history while continuing to look discombobulated in general

Thankfully one of them is the NFLs problem now.

But I’m tired of all the talk.

I’m tired of them talking into a microphone and I’m tried of them talking on the field.

I don’t want to hear from the staff either. It’s inane Coach speak.

A good first impression for 2025 is just everyone work in silence and then come out and DESTROY Florida State.

Then what will be an even better impression is to show up again the next 2 weeks vs LA Monroe and Wisconsin.

Don’t no show because you’re trying to skate by lesser teams like it’s the PAC-12 while you develop some super secret scripted 1st qtr vs UGA again.

And…

Especially don’t put your eggs in that basket and get embarrassed by Vanderbilt the following week.

I want to SEE a lot of things and hear nothing.

Coaches been talking since fall camp. Players talking. I don't think you'll have issues. But I want to be clear. Tyler Booker was not the problem last year.

He wasn't "the" problem, but was certainly part of the problem, or problems over the last 2 years. Time to turn the page though. New season, new faces, hopefully a much better performing line across the board.
