Where are they now: Johnny Musso

To this day when I see the Crimson 22 jersey I still think of Musso. He was a great player and will always be a part of the rich history of Crimson Tide Football.

Nobody could catch 22! ;)

Musso was before my time... but I don't doubt any of the stories I hear about him after seeing those tree trunks!...

Wow...this thread is a blast from the past. I think it was one of the first threads I posted in when I joined in August of 2005.

I was thinking earlier today that Johnny Musso could very well bring out the game ball...since it was him who carried us to a big win over an undefeated Barn in 1971.

I was at the University while Johnny was there. Folks, he was a sight to behold. For those of you who were there and got to see him run the ball, like me, you can still see him as if it were yesterday. He would run so hard sometimes his body couldn't keep up with his legs and he would be flying all over the place. He was really hard to bring down with just one lick. Any lone tackler, even with a solid lick, couldn't stop him cold. Legs flying and he would scrap for another 3, 4, or 5 yards. His body took a major beating every single game. He never quit....ever.

Sorry so many of our younger fans never got to see him play, at least in person.

All heart. All class. All American. Coach loved him and the Bama Nation did too. We lost one of our great players when he graduated.

I think he came down to T-town for a golf tournament back in the spring. Someone shared some pics on Crimson Tradition and he was in attendence, I believe.

:biga2:

I fortunately was at the University at the same time and Johnny was the consummate team player who played way above his abilities. I remember seeing him in the freshmen AU game, before freshment could play on the varsity, he shredded the Tigs with Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley. He is my all time favorite Alabama running back.

Johnny Musso was my all-time favorite Alabama player...bar none! The running styles of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson remind me a little of Musso just because of how hard they run. Johnny was always twisting, turning and spinning to get that extra yard or two after the hit. I don't believe he was as fast as Ingram and Richardson, but he was quick as a cat and could cut on a dime. I'd like again to see some footage of any Alabama games with Musso running the ball.
