Someone posted a picture of an article from the 26 rose bowl which also used the term "mythical nat'l championship". Maybe it's called that because the NCAA doesn't officially recognize a "championship" game, or regular bowl games for that matter. They are all post-season bonus games.

Well, since I don't believe that there will ever be a true playoff system, ending in a National Championship game, I don't think there is anything "Mythical" about it.

All the bcs conferences agreed to the system in place. As CNS says, "It is what it is." Alabama went undefeated through the BCS system and; therefore, deserves to be the Champion as defined by the system.

It is what it is.

Side note: Many CF fans are saying that Boise St deserves to share since they too went undefeated at 14-0. Why is that BSU deserves to share a championship but Bama doesn't deserve to share in past championships? Many argue that Bama only has 2 TRUE championships and the rest are split or shared, and they don't count.

Here's the obvious answer on Jan. 8, 2009: Bama has what every other team wants. That crystal trophy they passed around last night was REAL.

I've always taken exception to the term no matter whose championships are being discussed.

I can't stand the term to be quite frank about it. Here is the definition per Webster of mythical.

=====================

I know it felt surreal and all but last night did happen. We did beat the short horns. It didn't just happen in my imagination, and there wasn't anything fictitious about it. It was as real as it gets, just ask the TX QB's, I bet they know for sure that they played a FB game last night.

Absolutely NOT!

Yall beat the 2nd best team in the country back in December @ the GA Dome. You then capped it off last night by beating the 3rd best.

So the hell with all those fools that put "MNC" in front of your title, they're just jealous. Hopefully my Sooners can be asking this same question in the near future

I voted no.

Alabama, this year, is as close as it gets to an unequivocal consensus true national champion, as it gets under the current BCS system. Since it's inception, the BCS has never a more definitive/quintessential choice.

How's that for fence sitting.

One aspect of this championship that really sticks out to me is that Saban and Alabama won both the BCS and the AP NC, which is legitimate by the way as you noticed in the presentation ceremony. It sat there right next to the Crystal Ball and was awarded secondly.

I have often wondered if Coach Saban was miffed at the AP for splitting his LSU NC. I would take the BSC over the AP, but having the AP is very symbolic and has the history, respect and longevity on it's side. It means something too. Especially those that remember the days of the AP and UPI.
And remember, the goodd ole AP had us #1 a good part of the season.

Anyway, this is coach Saban's first unified NC, and one with an undefeated season.

I believe this is the final bonding step for Coach Saban and Bama. No more reason's to use the 2004 LSU NC as an example for the players, he can use the 2009 Alabama 14-0 BCS and AP National Champioship team as his example of the process. He led us to one of the best years in history and is now a permanent member of our glory forever.

Also, Colt McCoy lasted 5 plays against an upper SEC defense, and other QB's in our league have taken much more punishing blows imo, unless this was a fluke. I wish the media would cover that aspect. Even Gilbert was shaking his arm.

Maybe Colt is a little fragile for the the SEC. He eminds a little of Brodie, who might have been as good or better than Colt in the Big 12.

I want to know who voted "yes" in this poll. Show yourself coward......:p
The ten people who voted "yes", probably aren't familiar with the definition of "mythical". They probably associate it with something like: "better than average".

I dont hear anybody suggesting that they want to see Bama play BSU in a +1 game to really determine the real NC.

Doesnt seem to mythical to me.

Who believes it's mythical? Pick any Auburn fan at random and chances are (especially after Thursday) he or she will be convinced that it is mythical.
