I think the Tigahs' specialists have been more consistent than ours. How big will field position be for 2 teams playing a run focused offense ? I hope our kickers deliver Saturday.

I agree Maze is better on returns, but FWIW, LSU has given up fewer yards in TOTAL punt returns all year than they have WINS. Wing is excellent placing the ball where he wants it to be, and incredible hangtime.

Kickoff coverage is a concern of mine though...although against AU, they used a different scheme and it certainly seemed effective.

Well if we don't punt it really does not matter if they are better, if they only kick off once, & we take it to the house, then their ablity to kick into the endzone won't matter & if we make them punt often, the Maze will take one back. So to me our kicking game success could have nothing to do with our kicking I hope.

Punts and punt coverage goes to LSU by a slight amount. Bama has a good FG record. I wnat LSU to get enough field position advantage to equalize the total kicking game picture.

LSU doesn't rugby kick. (I'm assuming you're talking about that silly "let me run off to the side and kick it low and flat, then let it roll). Wing approaches 5 second hangtime on his punts.

I've got to go with LSU on this one. Our KO coverage is downright scary at times, of course if we're kicking off a lot we should be some happy campers.

Plus the LSU punter has a better dance on his way to the endzone, than ours. ;)

Agree your punter is better but have to disagree with the Aussie Football/Rugby kick being "silly". It is a very effective punt as many special teams don't want to try to catch it in case they muff it.

LSU gets penalized by an average of 30 yards per game more than us.....to me that negates any advantage in the kicking game they might have.

Well, I did say it was silly...but my point was, we don't employ a rugby style punt. Wing's Australian, but doesn't kick like a rugby punter does. He CAN, but I haven't seen him do it this season. I've seen him kick boomers with unreal hangtime, and I've seen him kick shorter placement punts with unreal hangtime. I've seen him kick right footed, and I've seen him kick left footed. He's a freak! I haven't been able to tell why he switches feet. At first I thought he used one foot for long kicks, the other for short kicks. But after watching replays, he seems to kick either one with either foot.

The reason I don't like the rugby kick is because it always looks like it's gonna be blocked. That said, it rarely is, and I know it can be effective. I think it's more effective when you have poor punt coverage or a kicker with bad hangtime.
