As long as you don't plant your spicy peppers near the mild ones and they cross pollinate. I've wanted to try it and see if I can make a spicy bell pepper.

That is true. Hot peppers need a bed of their own. If I'm not mistaken they can heat up veggies such as squash, cucumbers and such if planted too close. Hummmmm what about a spicy watermellon?
