Who’s leading QB1 race in FALL practice?

Are any of them as good as Greg McElroy? Yes or no?
I appreciate what GM did at Alabama in QB’ing a NC team and especially the late plays vs. AU and UF, but he would not even make the roster today.

So yes, IMO, the top 4 are all much better than GM. In fact, GM would never be given a second look by a program like Alabama today. But it doesn’t matter, the game has changed dramatically, where you need at least a “good” QB to win a NC today. GM would not even be a decent QB in today’s game.

Whether Alabama has a “good” QB this season appears to be a legit question, but which of the myriad of reports and opinions can we trust?

CNS has usually been straightforward and accurate in his comments about such matters (remember Blake when he was discounted by the fan base) which leads me to believe things are as he has stated - fluid. I. e., the competition is still on. At least 2-4 QBs still have a legit shot.

He’s had no trouble naming a starter in the past. IMO, he does not typically play the games some think.

Don't know about Greg not making the roster, the guy was tough,a leader and a winner I'll take that every day and twice on Sunday

Yep, love Gmac. Shula recruited him back in 2006 when we played Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. In fact, I believe Greg chose us over Tech.

As I remember it, he was committed to Tech, the flipped to us. Also as I remember, The Pirate was none too happy about it.
If he had played at Tech, he would have had huge numbers and people would have thought totally different thoughts about him. Of course, they would also have said that he was a "system QB". No, he didn't have a rocket for an arm, but he knew where the ball should go and he could get it there on time.
I think he was only a three star recruit, though, so many people are probably correct about him not getting recruited by us with Saban at the helm.

I would argue that very few would have been recruited by Saban back then, including players like Demeco Ryans, Wallace Gilberry, etc.

Would love your thoughts on this:

IMHO, Milroe's biggest area to improve on is his anticipation to make the throw on time. Sometimes it will look like telegraphing (as you mentioned), often in live action, he just won't make the throw/read at all. This was evident in the game last year, a-day, the scrimmages this fall, etc. It's also been extremely clear in the limited videos we get from practices. On EVERY throw where we can see both the QB and receiver, Milroe never throws when he should - before the cut, or the WR putting their foot in the ground. On hitch or curl routes when the ball should be out before the WR even has his head around, Milroe is usually still winding up when the WR has his head around, and the WR has usually come back several steps, or wait, before the ball hits his hands. On in, out and slants, the WR is multiple steps out of the break before the ball is out. Against a decent secondary, those will be broken up or picked off often as the DB has a lot more time to react. Contrast that with all the other guys, and if you pause the videos when the WR puts his foot in the ground, the other QBs are already starting the forward motion of their throw, and then the ball is out of their hands before the WR has his head around. This was evident in the last video from practice, so it certainly appears to still be a thing.

Understand that is a limited, although very consistent, sample set of throws, so from what you are hearing, is Milroe making any progress in this aspect of his game?
Yes, Milroe is improving. Give him time. He was Raw when he came to Alabama. Saban spoke on this today.
Asked about Milroe on Monday, Saban offered praise for the redshirt sophomore who started one game last season -- a close October win over Texas A&M, when Bryce Young was sidelined by a shoulder injury.

"I think Jalen has made a significant amount of improvement," Saban said. "I think he's more comfortable in the pocket. I think he has more confidence in the way he executes and the way he plays. He's been more consistent in the way he's played. I think that's going to be the key to the drill for him, to be able to maintain that consistency in every practice so he is developing the kind of habits that are going to carry over into the game and help him be successful."

He will be fine. I don't understand why folks are so down on Milroe ... This is the same group that frowned on Jalen Hurts several times at Alabama... He was doing same thing Milroe is doing now.... and Look at where Jalen Hurts is now. I have very confidence in Milroe, Simpson to make improvement throughout the season.
