Link: Who’s your pick: A.J. Green or Julio Jones?

The raw physical talent of Julio is unbelievable. As a Freshman the guy was dragging 4-5 LSU defenders last year. He also showed the ability to catch difficult passes and run excellent routes. Anybody voting against him is uninformed. The guy has more potential than any WR I've ever seen at Bama...and possibly the SEC. Now...talking overall potential...Trent Richardson might show us something too :).

Man, it's great to be a Bama fan. Roll Tide Roll :BigA:

I'm probably biased as much as anyone but I think this will be a great year for JJ for these reasons. First I think he will have all his injuries repaired so he can compete at his level. Second I think Greg McElroy will be a better QB than Joe Cox. Third I believe Jim McElwain is head and shoulders above Mike Bobo as offensive coordinator and Fourth I think Alabama will be the better complete team than Georgia this season.

Last season both A.J. and Julio had near identical stats, 56 vs 58 receptions, 963 vs 924 yds. A.J. caught more TD passes probably by design of our offense 8 vs 4. I think it will be close again this season with Julio being the more talked about player.

The upcoming season should give us more information to make a better comparison. The fact is that every team needs different kinds of receivers. JJ obviously is going to give you more tough yards than Aj. AJ has some pretty sweet hands and proved to be a great deep threat last year. These different functions within their respective offensive systems make this comparison very difficult.

One thing is easy to understand, both of these men need to be congratulated for choosing to play in the toughest defensive conference in the NCAA. In '08 every receiver looked like a super star in the Big 12 or PAC 10. Playing against tougher defenses in college will allow them to transition to the NFL easier. But lets enjoy these two guys a couple more years before we start talking NFL. RTR

Green had better complimentary receivers around him and a better QB.

Give those advantages to Julio and he comes up with significantly better numbers, IMHO.

Well, I think it is at least an interesting question if we compare them as freshmen. Then as sophomores, juniors, seniors, etc. Where do they get drafted, what kind of pro careers do they post...

Green played to his potential, I'll give him that.

I think a more mature Julio Jones may someday place a bust of himself in a hall of fame somewhere and carve out a little niche for himself in any discussion comparing one receiver to another.

No contest, JJ all the way. They're both very athletic, are about even in speed and hands, but the difference is after the catch. With Green, he runs the risk of being hurt after he catches it, but with JJ, the DBs run the risk of being hurt after he catches it. :p_green:

your right on TM he has a knack to punish even when he don't break the tackle. The one's who try to come in on the hit (when he's tied up) have very little success bringing him down.

Completely agree here but with him looking to maximize YAC he took a lot of shots by safties and LB's on the sidelines. He is one tough guy but overtime I would like to see him try to minimize his contact towards the sidelines. Over the middle you have to love his determination and willingness to go get the ball.

Was he healthy going into the season last year?

Very rare that two players from the same position live up to the billing as freshmen. However I believe these did. I am still glad we got Julio. He plays like a leader.:BigA::):BigA:

Not only is JJ a better route runner, he is physically more gifted. JJ also blocks much better. He is like a split end out there blocking. I am interested in seeing some of our visiting fans vote (Tenn fans, UGA fans, LSU fans, etc)

They're both outstanding but they're different receivers. Julio is way more physical and AJ is more of the finesse break away type.

I'd give Julio a slight edge because he comes ready to play in the big games and he has shown me that he's more of a clutch guy.

Let's put it this way, if the games on the line and I've got one play to pass in the end zone I'm throwing to Julio.
