Good read - Scout.com: Why Eddie Lacy Chose Alabama

Eddie Lacy, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound four-star running back from Dutchtown High School in Geismar, La., says that when he sat down for his signing day press conference and had the two hats in front of him, he still wasn’t 100 percent sure what he was going to do.
“It was a real hard decision,” Lacy said. “I didn’t think it was gonna be that hard. I thought I was gonna go to Alabama, but then I visited Tennessee and that really messed things up. I wasn’t expecting to like Tennessee so much.”

So why did Lacy end up choosing the Alabama hat? “Nobody knew that’s what I was going to do,” he said. “But that’s really where my friends and family wanted me to go. They’re real happy.

“When I sat down I just thought about Alabama and coach Nick Saban and how good they are,” Lacy said. “That was pretty much it. It’s just better competition at Alabama and I’ll be able to play against the best players in the country every day at practice. The only way you can get better is to play against the best and that’s what I felt would happen at Alabama.”

That kind of attitude is the kind that becomes contagious and gets us to the Promised Land. I know it's already been said, but Lacy could be the highlight of this class, and this is one of the reads that helps prove that.

Where are the diva quotes????? You know the """"" I'm the only back they're recruiting, early playing time, promised a stating slot, etc"""". How can you play football with a guy like that??? He wants to compete???? We get arguably the best back in the country and Lacey says, line him up real close to me so'es we can all get a good look and I'll show you who's who! Reminds me of when Coffee first showed up and his "I got this" statement. Moves, cuts, speed, all the things discussed about RBs and he wants,,, let's me and you go over there and get real low just to find out who's meanest. Playing RB at Alabama is getting tougher. I'm liking it, yes I am.

Why Eddie Lacy Chose Alabama

Very good article...He is not afraid of the challenge and realizes how far he can go hanging with the Tide. He also got some good advice from Green; it just shows the maturity level of the kids that Saban recruits.

It's only going to get better...how exciting is that?

Great article, and I am glad to have in him in the Bama family.

The title of this thread could have easily been "Rueben Randle...you could learn a lot from Eddie Lacy."

It says in the article that Lacy currently has a 2.0 GPA and 18 ACT. Does anyone know how close that is to qualifying on the sliding scale?

Still hard to believe he didn't know where he was going when he sat down at the table. I don't buy it for a minute.
He told his HS coach he was going to choose UT right before the signing ceremony. His close relationship with UT coach Frank Wilson and the apparent fact that UT told him he could get immediate playing time were big factors in him almost choosing UT. Fortunately when he got up there to announce he just had to choose CNS and Bama.

NCAA Minimum Eligibility Requirements

See Page 2 on the NCAA link. With an average ACT score of 18 (cumulative score of 72), he would need a 2.375 GPA in his core courses to be able to qualify.

If those figures in the article are accurate, chances are very slim for EL qualifying this year. However, there's no way of us knowing whether or not 2.0 is his actual core GPA...so there's still hope. I never thought Zo Lawrence would qualify last year but he did.

Great article. Definitely has the right attitude coming out of HS...

This kid was a good one....as long as he qualifies.

Who do you see being the better back, Lacy or Richardson?

I think we are still playing the B. Brown/Oku game. Still got about 3 weeks until these guys do anything

Hard for me to say. I have watched film on Lacy and he is one of the hardst runners I hav ever seen. Seems he never went down on the first hit. I think that he Trent, and mark will be an awesome trio.

That comment in itself was powerful from the start. Eddie obviously sat down and thought long and hard about what to do. I can only imagine the battle to not give into the temptation of early playing time and arrive at the understanding of playing against the best. He distances himself from those who are weaker to selfish desires of want. Eddie Lacy is beyond his years and will be a special player at Alabama. :BigA:

You might just put "traveling salesman" in parentheses after "drummer." I think knowing the term as meaning that has died out with my generation. However, "traveling salesman" is what Coach Bryant meant...

Not to bash anything you said. I like the kid wanting to go against what he thinks is the best competition...would much rather see a decision based on that as opposed to playing time.

If he is so smart beyond his years, why is it unknown to whether he will qualify or not?

Like I said, I like the way he is thinking competition wise...I am just not sure he is the sharpest tool in the shed.

Then again....brains really has very little to do with how good of an athlete he will be.

We would loved to have signed him in Big Orange Country and then worried about his academics later.

Sometimes kids that are very good athletes are allowed to get by, in HS, without applying themselves to their academics.......and struggling with grades to get into college has more to do with THAT than "brains".

"Big Orange Country" does have a way with academics and eilgibility!!!

There are some unconfirmed rumblings that Oku will soon be signing with Nebraska .
