For what turned out to be our last offensive play Friday, the original call was run. Saban called time out to reverse that to a pass. Here, in his own words, was his thought process:
“We needed four yards. When they’re in goal-line defense and they’ve got them all up there, it’s kind of hard to gain four yards on one play,” Saban said. “I felt like if we got in a goal-line formation and make them think we were going to run, sometimes that’s when you get the best coverage, the easiest coverage to throw because they’re all coming to get the run — and that’s exactly what happened. Greg made a good throw (and Upchurch) made a good catch, and it’s a safe play.”
We caught untold garbage (I'd like to say worse) for paying $4 million a year for a football coach. Anybody wondering why he's worth the money now?
