After reading through several posts I do not understand why Mal Moore is blamed for soo much. This is my take on him, forgive me for my ranting.

I am not a huge fan of CMM but he has not done as bad of a job as many people think. He is unfairly blamed for many coaching hires. I would like to make a report of his coaching hires and many other things he has done for the University. Most of this has been posted before by well respected posters and moderators.

Lets start off with his football hires:

1) Franchione-- This was not a bad hire, he was was a good coach. It is not CMM's fault that he jumped ship.

2) Price-- Seems to be a good coach and hire. Again, it was not his fault CMP enjoyed gentleman clubs and could not act with discretion.

3) Shula-- It has been reported by well respected people that this was not his hire. Besides that, who else would you have gotten in MAY!!?

Other things that he has done well for the AD:

1) CMM seems to have a special nact for fundraising. Under is direction many renovations and building projects have been conducted of various athletic facilities.

2) Many other athletic teams have done exceptionally well-- basketball, baseball, gymnastics, softball, golf. While these may not be the bread winners like football, they do garner attention and respect towards the University.

While I do get tired of seeing him at halftime of EVERY football game, he does work very hard for the University. In my opinion he seems to not get a fair shake on decisions regarding football. Although I do understand that the man at the top should be held responsible for what has occured under his leadership, I do not think it is entirely fair to just look at football coaching hires. If people do just look at those I would like them to have some perspective of the situation that led to those hirings & firings.

I welcome people's thoughtful opinions of CMM's job so far.

tidepws - you're preaching exactly what I've been saying for some time now - he's an easy target but has done a fabulous job, imo.

But then, some folks only see the world with blinders on...

Because he's the easiest target for people that don't know any better. The AD for any school has a bullseye on their back.

it's the way it is the HC gets blamed - the AD gets blamed - the CEO gets blamed that is why they make big bucks.

I agree I think Mal is wonderful

Most Mal Moore bashers get their "scoop" from other MM bashers at Hardees over a biscuit and gravy and a coffee. They have absolutely ZERO idea of what's going except what the local news tells them is the truth.

3) Shula-- It has been reported by well respected people that this was not his hire. Besides that, who else would you have gotten in MAY!!?

No need to read the rest of your argument. If you believe that Shula was the ONLY COACH IN AMERICA who would have taken, or was the best for, the Alabama job I already know what your knowledge is of the situation.

Why does he get blamed for the football woes? The same reason the President gets blamed for the economy when it sours: he's the guy at the top and will shoulder the blame whenever something goes wrong. Unfortunately, all his good will go unnoticed. As a cartoon, Futurama, put it: If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

No need for the personal attack.

I believe that CMS was at the right place at the right time and the right person for the time for where Bama was at.

Please give me a list of coaches who you believe who would have taken the job and of course done a better job?

Mike Stoops (Bob's brother) wanted the job. He even had a plan to get us through the probation period drawn up before we ever talked with him.

I wasn't trying to get personal. Just stating that if you believe certain things then I can draw several conclusions from that.

If I am not mistaken Mike Stoops has a history of "certain" questionable decisions that we just went through with CMP.. I might be wrong but I believe I heard something about that..

I like Mike Stoops, personally, and I wish we would look at him now for our search, if Saban falls through... but hindsight is always 20/20 when looking at 2003.

Easy. Jimbo Fisher. Norm Chow. Charlie Weiss (long shot but he had no head coaching offers at the time). Jim Bollman at OSU. Just a few off the top of my head.

Fair question, but don't expect an answer. When I was a Shula supporter, I asked it on more than one occasion on this forum, and got only the slipstream in response.

Long story short, my thinking changed and I now believe the firing of Shula in November of 2006 was the best thing for everyone. But rewind to May of 2003, and it's a different story.
