Why not give Norm Chow a shot?

He's younger than Spurrier (60 years old). Mike Keith, the Titans radio announcer, said he would love to get back in the college game and would be deadly if given the chance. No HC experience, but everywhere he's been, that team has won. Has coached on a NC winning team. He's coached Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and now he's getting more out of Vince Young than most people thought possible as a rookie. He's coached 6 of the NCAA's top 16 career pass efficiency leaders and 11 of the top 30 passing yardage totals in NCAA history. There's nothing negative the media would be able to say about this hire, and it's a good bet that we'd be able to attract some top level QB's and WR's, for example Julio Jones maybe, if you like 6-4, 205 pound rocket speedsters.

I would absolutly love to see Norm Chow or Jeff Tedford here. Norm Chow would be my first pick. Now we are talking. I hope the powers that be read this site. We are suddenly beginning to see beyond the fables and getting into realistic picks. Players would flock to Norm Chow and Offense would never be a problem again. He is also smart enough to hire JK. Thank you for seeing the light.

Go ahead and start a thread on him, not a bad choice at least to talk about.

Yes, I'm afraid he wouldn't. Spurrier's age wouldn't have been a problem, because of his HC experience. Chow, as an OC only, hasn't had the experience managing the overall picture. We desperately need someone who can get a handle on the off-field problems, including the weight room, and who can insist on creating a functioning ADept. Maybe Chow could do it, but I don't think we'll roll the dice again...

You're unfortunately probably right. And that's too bad because if they were still available, Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, and Charlie Weiss would've never made our list either. It's that stubborn, tunnel vision way of thinking that has kept us down for going on 10 years now.

Like generals, we're always fighting the last war. So, you can bet we won't make the same mistakes as last time, the major one of which is seen as taking a chance on an inexperienced HC. Now, OTOH, we might re-make the mistake of the hire before last, etc...:)

So true Tide-HSV. BTW, what is your opinion of this Kragthorpe from Tulsa? I like him, but would he be tough enough for the position?

Hard to say. I think I can say that Rodriguez would have not have withstood it. Perhaps there are elements in the (in)ADept who would not welcome a very strong head-coaching figure?

That's a big problem, trying to discuss it here. You can't go far without discussing personalities and then we (and you, if you comment) are treading very close to the actionable defamation line. We can only look at the ADept output and I don't think anyone can be really happy with the output over the last several years, except for the magnificent success in the additions. Maybe it's time for a clean-out. And that could start with the hire of a strong HC...

You guyyys be right. No real chance at Chow but I can thank of a lot of good T-shirts made with his name. He would have been a good one but we do need to go out and bring in the right coach. To many people are talking about a fast fix. That was CMS, now is the time to bring in the coach who will stay several years.

Earle, do you see a chance that this time we really get a strong-willed HC? Will the power structure within the AD give in and allow it? Perhaps if we do, the Rodriguez eposide will serve as a wakeup call.

Im not sure that he has expressed no intrest and I do agree he is not on our current top list, but whom ever gives this guy a chance will be marked as a intellegent man. Chow could bring in a top A, B list staff and he is one of the hardest workers in football. I agree that he is not a "fit" with the fans per say but look at what he has done. Go to the USC link and check out the recruits and his offensive stats. He is a diamond waiting to be plucked. We took Shula man, Shula. Chow is leaps and bounds above him in experience IMHO. Shula got the job because of his name PERIOD and because of his said recruiting. NC can do this and restore our tradition. He does love California and has a huge role in the public there. We are going to have to take a chance, no established coach is going to take a chance here due to our shortlived coaching track records. NC can do this!

I dont think he has been offered or considered. Many people will say no, based soley on the fact they do not feel they are a candidate. I want NC and will continue to lobby for him. He will be a great success for whomever gives him the shot. I do not feel he is a "candidate" currently for obvious reasons. A good coach doesnt have ties to Alabama or he would already be here. Last year if I were on here talking about any of the coaches named (Navy, Wake Forrest, Rutgers) I would have been the laughing stock of this board. You want consistency, work ethic, genius, innovation.... at the helm NC is the man. He fits every mold that MM and the fans want... This is no S Croom or M Shula and better than the top candidates in many ways. Maybe we are not discussing him due to his last name??? Man if he could only be a Roberts, Jones, Williams, Croom (oh wait that one doesnt apply)
