According to BCS, the first priority for at large teams are non-BCS conference teams in the top 6. Utah has clinched a top 6 spot. Boise St. is #7. If either Cal or Texas were to lose, Boise St. could very likely move into the top 6 of the BCS. The second priority are BCS conference teams in the top 4. Since Auburn is #3 right now, they would fall out of the BCS top 4 (USC, Oklahoma, Cal, and Texas would be ranked ahead of them). In that situation, the BCS would be required to take either Cal or Texas. Also, everyone knows that the Rose Bowl covets Cal. If USC goes to the Orange, the Rose would definitely take Cal if they can and they would get first pick. Auburn could still make the BCS if they lose, but a whole bunch of teams would have to lose too.
